I know the answer - ditch them, but everyone else in the household likes it (I guess it's me that sorts out ALL the many problems!)
Recently I used the CD that migrates to the new Carphone Warehouse network they are using and we won't stay migrated. Everytime I re-start the PC I have to use the CD again to migrate as it won't let me on and says 'You can no longer access the internet in this way' as it tries the old 7 step log on rather than the new 3 step TP/ICP way
Has anyone else had these issues and found a solution?
Finally, just incase I manage to leave AOL, anyone had any experience of Sky Max broadband?
I notice it's £10 p/m for existing sky customers with unlimited usage, but i've not read any small print yet, I just saw the offer. 8mb package.
Thanks

Broadband Max from Sky is up to 16mbps and £10 per month, but is only available if Sky/Easynet have unbundled your local exchange.
Check this on Samknows.
Lots of information on Sky bb on https://www.skyuser.co.ukThat gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Nope, can't get Sky Max then
Thanks for the info!
Maybe have to look elsewhere.
I'm not a huge downloader, but prefer unlimited/high usage so I am not restricted0 -
I found this on the AOL Community board under "Connection Problems", it may help you. Your luck you recieved a CD, i didntI Believe alot of people have been having constant disconnections from aol, or are not able to connect to aol after using the aol (immediate action required cd) that we were all sent.
i believe alot of people were returning to the old aol network and the old software to sort the temorary problem out, you dont need to change to anything just to do what i am about to tell you.
Well after one week of complete head aches i have finally found the problem and everyone has to follow this advice or they will continue to have these problems and aol wont be able to help you, as aol dont even know what the problem is, themselves, which is typical, (NEVER TELL US ANYTHING).
however i have been with (america online) for over 8 yrs and i have had some problems and could always sort things out, but this is baffled me and alot of other people for weeks now, But i have got to know aol now and i know when something is going on with them,
anyway follow this below and you will be back online with no problems
straight away
WHAT NOT TO DO
Do not mess with any settings on your computer or you will face worse issues, do not mess with your aol connections because it is not that at all,
WHAT TO DO
You could go back to your old aol network and software but you will only have this as a temp solution, and when aol does eventually switch over to their new network and stops having these temp problems you will find your self in confusion even more,
DO THIS - get aol to send you their new network cd, (its green) and it as an immediate insert written on it) aol will know the disc you want, if you dont already have it, (YOU NEED THIS DISC)
When you eventually get the disc through the mail, or if you already have it with you, you need to follow these steps
1. Close aol software down
2. insert your new green disc into your dvd drive (or cd drive)
3. wait for the aol disc to run and connect to your computer
4. you will eventually after 1 or 2 minute you will be asked to enter your aol disc twice, then press enter
5. then wait for the disc to finish and start your aol software again,
6. connect to your aol connection and enter all the relevent information (aol username and password if you are asked) if not you will be online within seconds,
7. if you dont get online at this point, you need to go to (sign on option)
and enter a new location for your connection then retry to connect again
THIS IS THE IMPORTANRT PART FOR YOU TO FOLLOW PLEASE DONT IGNORE
Within days you will wake up switch your pc on and find yourself not able to connect to aol again and it is frustrating but this will have to be repaeted over and over until aol sort themselves out or get a better solution sorted out.
YOU NEED TO REPEAT STEPS 1 TO 7 AGAIN IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM GETTING ONLINE,
BBut first check that none of your cables aren't unplugged and your connection is working, check your moderm/router is wsitched and the lights are working,
LIKE I MENTIONED ALREADY THE DISC WILL HAVE TO BE USED QUITE A LOT OVER A MATTER OF WEEKS AND THIS IS THE REASON THAT AOL SENT THIS DISC TO US NOT JUST TO CHANGE TO THEIR NEW NETWORK, ITS FOR ALL THE INTERUPTIONS YOU ARE ABOUT TO EXPERIENCE, BUT WHY DIDN'T AOL TELL US THIS,, INSTEAD OF LETTING US INSERT IT ONCE AND HAVE MAJOR PROBLEMS AFTERWORDS WITHOUT KNOWING WE HAD TO USE IT AGAIN AND AGAIN
Many thanks0 -
Hi
I have Sky Broadband middle package (8mb - should be £5.00 p/mnth) which i acquired last August, I have to pay for Sky connect (£17 p/mnth) as they have not updated my local exchange however they told me when i ordered that my local exchange would be updated by December 07 - It still isn't now nearly a year on.
I know that sometimes if you call them and threaten to cancel your subscription they will drop the prices, anyone think this is a good idea / had any experience doing this???????
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks.Trying to get back on track!!!

That's exactly my problem with the CD in your quoted post.
Today it's not asked me to migrate again...........maybe we're getting somewhere?
Have you asked for a CD yet?0 -

No, not yet. To be honest im completely confused by this whole migration thing. I wasnt sure whether the CD/update was for everyone or just modem users. But i think its for everyone.
I phoned up AOL yesterday and asked about the CD, but just got fobbed off as usual:eek: .0 -
I spoke too soon. Back to using the CD again
My CD says just modem users, so if you don't have a modem, you're fine0 -

The update is/was only for those using a modem, routers were automatically updated via the internet, did aol offer to send you a new router?0
