Energy Efficiency Campaign 2008

We had a card through the door offering grant subsidies on windows and doors, central heating, loft and cavity wall insulation etc.

Is this a genuine government initiative or a scam marketing ploy by a double glazing co. There is not a company name on the card just a phone no. 0800 077 8266

My daughter has agreed for them to come out on Friday, so we´ll see who they are then.

I have googled the name and phone no, but can´t find anything concrete.

Good morning: Your best bet is to visit the Energy Saving Trust for info on grants etc.

Ask to see CIPHE (Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering)
  • After receiving a card throught the door from a supposedly energy home improvement uk grant co, I have just rang them on 0800 077 8266 as I thought it appeared to be a scam and it definitely is. I asked for the company name the chap I spoke to said they were called Energy..I have tried to check this company out and their is no such company. Please inform as many people as you can about this so called Energy Company.
  • Hi, I also have received the leaflet through the door and I have someone comming round tomorrow to measure up and give a quote. Did any of you actually get any further than getting the measurements ?
    Thanks for any feedback

I had a double glazing company come round to measure up, he did ask a couple of questions about if I cared about the environment. The salesman confirmed that 0800 077 8266 was a marketing company who passes on the leads to DG companies that pay into their scheme. The quote was more than I was prepared to pay, especially as it was not a local company, he came from about 30 miles away.
  • I also had the card in the box, phoned the number and somebody came out. He never contacted us again and I phoned back the number several times, on which they stated that they would send out a quote. This has been going on for about 10 weeks and I asked the lady on the phone to refer me to other company. Somebody else phoned and made appointment for somebody to come out for a quote. Guess what... nobody showed up. This company's name is Real Energy. It is a shame that these kind of people give the building trade a bad name. They wasted a lot of my time.

    the give away would be..

    "extensions"
    "farage conversions"
    "conservatories"

not on the top of the "save the planet" list are they..
The orginal post in this thread has a very very slim chance of being about money saving. The post is more than likely to ask a question that google could answer better than any of us.

I received one of these cards today and found this thread very useful. I wouldn't say that it is not about money saving as had this been a genuine offer a grant would definately have been money saving!

any card or leaflet with no company name on it, is hardly likely to be the most ethical company in the world. never mind being green.
and any grant on an overpriced product, is hardly money saving. some of these "improvement" products have a 20 yr payback period.
    buyer beware.
    Get some gorm.

I just got one of these cards through the door - and would advise MSE users to check the Advertising Standards Authority ruling on the matter, following a complaint from Lancashire Trading Standards - http://www.asa.org.uk/asa/adjudications/Public/TF_ADJ_45373.htm

    The company involved is:
Energy Home Improvements (UK) LtdGokulLong LaneGreat HeckNr GooleDN14 0BT

If you get a card I would consider reporting it to the ASA as this company have clearly not abided by the ruling given. http://www.asa.org.uk/asa/

My opinion: avoid companies using devious tactics like this to gain business.

I got one of these cards delivered today and called the number. They offered excuses as to why they could not provide the company name, its address or the name of any officer of the company!

So I confirmed with BT that the phone number 0800 077 8266 is with a company called ENERGY HOME IMPROVEMENTS (UK) LTD.

Companies House lists the company's details as follows:

    ENERGY HOME IMPROVEMENTS (UK) LTD
    26 ROWENA DRIVE
    DONCASTER
    DN5 8QU
    Company No. 05580450

The company was incorporated on 30/09/2005 but has never submitted any accounts to Companies House. The company is also overdue in submitting an annual return. There is now a proposal to strike off the company from the Companies House register.

I concur with Hillards on the ASA adjudication but they have amended their advertising material to show they are offering a PRIVATE GRANT. However, the latest flyer makes no reference to any business name whatsoever, which puts it in breach of ASA advertising rules.

There is also another company with a similar name:

    REAL ENERGY HOME IMPROVEMENTS LIMITED
    112 DOWLAND AVENUE
    HIGH GREEN
    SHEFFIELD
    SOUTH YORKSHIRE
    S35 4LA
    Company No. 06293616

There is also a proposal to strike this company off the Companies House register. This company also failed to submit an annual return to Companies House.
