So, according to Task Manager, which of the applications/processes are most resource hungry?

Vista Home Basic runs perfectly well with 1gb of Ram.

Personally I don't like either AVG or ZoneAlarm as I've found them both to be resource hungry, so I dump them

It runs ok with 1 gb, but a lot better with 2gb of ram.
IMHO £30 is money well spent (average cost of 2gb DDR2)

it wont hurt to look at the ram. Make sure to turn it all off and remove the battery first though. It should be a little green card around 2.5 inches wide and is not in the least bit interesting . Might be two cards one behind the other depending on your computer.
    Mine is 2 .

You wont see all the ram in the system info though as some is used for graphics so while you have 1gb of ram, some is used for graphics and not included in the information(thats how it is on hubbies and he has vista).

I'm with nomo..., vista may run with 1gig, but 2 is much better, and 4 is better still, 8 is probably overkill
