OK... I've got my flameproof suit for this one...
How come nobody complains when it happens the other way? "It said £1.99 on the shelf but they only charged me 99p". Or even on this forum, 'Get down to xxx quick, they have a TV at £200 but it scans at the till at £20'
Sometimes within the retail business, we can get 500+ prices to change in 1 day. It's unfortunately human nature that 1 or 2 may be missed. That's why all retailers will rectify the error if there is an issue.0 -

Coming across this on a regular basis.
Started at Christmas last year when Asda had three bottles of wine for £10.00 which wasn't as the till was not computing the offer and came up at full price. Took receipt to customer service and requested the discount.
The 'lady' said they were not on offer so dragged her to the shelves and pointed out the offer, she then stated that one of the wines were not included - anyway after evil looks she eventually gave me the discount and I returned to the shelf and promptly moved the bottles which were not in the offer. (Nothing stops me!!!)
So please check receipts thoroughly and make sure that they do not leave the shelf price missing after removing them when the error is pointed out!!!
i had this in the CO-op bought two for Six quid bottles of wine.... found out I had been charged for 2 separate bottles, complained and showed them the shelf....where the sign said 2 for £6 in big writing and under neath in tinsy tiny writing said the three types of wine on offer, of the two types of wine on the shelf one was on offer the other was not!!
I was told they would only refund if they (co op) made an error and not me ....  Furious I told her this was misleading and that the non offer bottles should not have been placed with the sign!
Got a refund and bought second bottle of Pinot grigio to comply with the offer!
then there was the chees ..... did not come up as BOGOF ..... despite signage etc. Complained and turned out it was going on offer the next day! :mad:0 -
I have this at my local Tesco all the time-the miserable lady on the customer service desk rolls her eyes as she sees me approaching. She actually argues when I complain that a whole stand is made up of items not included in the heavily advertised offer-she always says that it is customers who mix the display up,even on the occasion that I invited her to walk over with me to view the fact that the displayed items were ALL excluded from the offer.More rolling of eyes-that particular lady is not cut out for CS work!
I never leave a store without checking my receipt now and probably 50% of the time I have to trek to CS and queue to get back what I've been overcharged.
And actually I always point out when I've been undercharged-otherwise I wouldn't feel entitled to complain when I'm overcharged!Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0 -
I would say it has never been easier to keep track of prices. The old methods would have required a massive list, then someone identifying the products on the shelf then applying the labels and then applying the price sticker (remember those pricing guns!!!)
None of that now, scan product into warehouse, update datebase, print off offer labels, apply to shelf, stock shelf, scan product and label to ensure they match - job done. Human element is kept to a minimum.
The problems usually arise when there is a price change for something, and you miss one location that something is in, the system doesn't tell you were the product is, just that the price has changed (belive me changing labels of sweets on 32 c/outs, the kiosk and the sweet aisle ain't fun, especially if someone distracts you and you forgot where you got too!)
And the multisave offer problems are the same as above, you think you've removed all the labels (apart from the display someone put up last night you didn't know about!) or they just 'fall off the system', in which case you don't know its happened until someone tries to buy the offer.0 -

Human element may well be kept to a minimum, but have you ever done it? There are numerous ways it can go wrong. Chewing gum is the worst for me, all on the checkouts and kiosk and random stands.. We have people come in from outside to put up the stands so we don't know when they move them. Can't change the price if you don't know its there! Even ordinary displays can change overnight, or even during the day while you're trying to change prices. We're only human; mistakes can be made!
sweep9: I have seen just over 2000 changes overnight before, on promotion change day. Average is around 1500 for promotion change. With that volume, is it any wonder they don't all get found?0 -

Nope never done it, but I have had to implement systems and processes that relied on my staff being able to work them. They were just as complicated as 2000 price changes in an evening. If you are saying that changing prices cant be done then your managers have failed. Either by not employing the correct people to do the jobs, or failing to feed back to their superiors that there are errors in the systems used. Either way, saying that we as customers should expect mistakes is just not good enough.0 -
Your staff never made missed anything? Never had to deal with unexpected events? Wow.0

Yep they made the odd mistake, but our customers/clients very rarely knew about it, and if they did they were not expected to have to pay for the mistake - in fact they would not have tolerated it and we would have probably lost them.
We would also learn form that mistake and make sure that it was not repeated. What you are saying is that the system you used is floored and as customers we should just accept that and accept that the consequences of such is mis priced goods.
It is just laziness on the part of the stores, either by the staff or by the management - no doubt head office believe it should be able to be accomplished within the time scale - which means the store management have to take responsibility.0
