Broadband options

I posted a little while back about moving into a new flat. I am desperate for an internet connection and am currently using my 3 mobile phone. However as a usually heavy internet user I must get a proper broadband package pretty soon.
I have check with BT and they first told me that the phone line was previously active so would be easy to re-activiate, now they tell me that it isn't active and i'd need to pay £30 and be tied into an 18month contract. I'm only in this property for 6months.
The Post Office want £129 to activate the phoneline so that is a no go.
I called up Tiscali who will do it for £30 on a 12month phone and broadband package for £9.99 a month. This seems like a good deal to me, but since my phone isn't already active I can't go through quidco and get £25 cash back.
What are my other options when it comes to broadband and getting a phone line activated? Do any other providers activate the phone line?

c-m,
do what my daughter and wife did..
get a 3 modem/usb unit for broadband.
My daughter pays £5 per month and my wife pays £7.50 per month for 100 hours. Then when you move after the six months THEN look at getting fixed broadband

You'll probably regret going with tiscali. Have a google. They're awful, and have ruined every ISP they've bought.
They're now up for sale and nobody wants to buy them.
Do you have/want sky? Speak to them. I've heard of them activating lines for free (or giving you an account credit to the amount BT will charge) if you go with them for broadband and tv. Their broadband's half-decent as well. Much better than Tiscali's.
Get in contact with a few of the LLU isps in your aread (find out via samknows.com) and tell them you're considering becoming a customer but don't want to pay the line activation fee, ask them if there's any solution.
Can you get Virgin or Smallworld cable? Might be an option. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
called everyone i could find. no-one would activate for free. Sky would pay back the £129.99 but that package would cost £400 per year compared to around £170 with Tiscali.
I read all the stories and bit the bullet and signed up with them - oh dear0
