you'd need a cot though, once they got too big to sleep in a drawer or cardboard box
edit - i just read back and marker had already mentioned the cot. some people buy a changing table. a friend of ours had a tough time after a section so a changing table would have made a huge difference. i got one off freecycle for her though. i was glad of my changing table bought for £20 from an NCT sale. I freecycled it afterwards - they are sturdy and will last through lots of babies.
OP have you been to an NCT sale? I love them, especially for toys. http://www.nct.org.uk/home
they never have details of the sale in my town though, i have to go to the local website for my town.'bad mothers club' member 13

The only thing I can think of would be a wardrobe to store baby's clothes and other stuff.
We just used a chest of drawers....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
