Clunking Wipers

My 04 Zafira's wipers make an awful clunking noise when they change direction after going 'up'. As far as I can tell, it is only the driver's side. I have ordered some new wipers, but I am sure that I had new ones in and it carried on doing it before.

When it went for its mot it was noted that they clunked, but they didn't do anything about it.

Could they be pressing too tightly down on the windscreen? Or is it likely to be something more sinister...

Any advice greatly appreciated!

It sounds although they are pressing too tightly on the windscreen however I dont think this can be adjusted....

Replacement wiperblades has always worked for me.
Do yours still clunk when the windscreen is wet?

Because it is an inspection, not a service.

I'll see if the new wipers do anything, if not then I'll ask the garage.

    Thanks for your replies,

Perhaps the linkage needs a good greasing? (Depending on the design of the linkage)

There lots of problems with Zafira wipers clunking. Halfords did a stock recall on their Valeo wipers for this problem. A lot of the cheaper wipers do this so go for a "quality" brand from a reputable retailer who will take them back if they clunk.

Is the linkage the bolt that holds them in place?

Many people seem to think an MOT involves servicing and/or repairs. Countless times I've heard "it was serviced when it had the MOT" and they weren't meaning that they were taking advantage of one of these "MOT+service" deals the garage was offering. Some people honestly believe that you get a service and/or repairs in an MOT.

I was merely pointing this out in case that was the case.

If there's a haynes manual for your car it should describe any such maintenance requirements.
