My confusing problem

I am considering moving to a new home soon and have no idea if a telephone line exists in the property. It probably sounds odd but I cannot check with the occupants if their is one as they don't know I'm going to be moving in.
It's a long and complicated story but basically I cannot find out if they have a phone line in there unless I agree to buy the property but dont want to agree to buy unless I know if they have an existing line.
I have been on the samknows website and it says their are several providers for internet that could supply the property but doesn't say for sure of an existing phone line.. is there a way I can find out 100% if a phone line exists?

Phone directory enquiries and ask for a listing for those people at that address... then ring them and see if it rings .
Failing that, wouldn't the EA know whether there is a line in or not?I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

BT should be able to tell you if a line exists, if its not with them they probaly want tell you who the current provider is.If your not in a cable area their is no point in calling Virgin.
BT are doing £29.99p connection at the moment.
