Buying a phone not under contract - need advice please
I am currently comparing tariffs with Vodafone & have been a bit of a pushover for years with negotiating a new deal.
What I am unsure of is if I take up a new contract with no phone (currently best deal available for me) & something I have never done, can I buy a Vodaphone PAYG phone and put my current monthly contract sim in and just use it or do I have to buy a sim free unlocked phone? It's just the PAYG phones seem cheaper than the other and don't want to accept a deal which makes for hard work to sort.
Thanks for your help.

If you buy a vodafone phone your vodafone sim will work in the phone. It might be even unlocked as vodafone do not lock their phone to vodafone. Even if its locked to another network go to your local phone shop/market and they should unlock for about £50 -
Do not know if you are a member of the Quido cashback site , see link
http://www.quidco.com/vodafone/
if you take up a voda SIM only contract online via the Quidco website Voda should pay you £90. There are a range of SIM only deals but the cheapest starts at £15 and you could put the SIM in your current phone and away you go.
Alternately you could try and squeeze a better deal out of the Vodafone contract people by saying you are about to go to PAYG. if you were willing to retain your phone they would probably offer you a good contract, bearing in mind the deal they ofer would have to be better than the SIM only deals they are offering, given that you would be tied into a contract. On all the SIM only deals you only need to give 30 days notice to leave. Hope this is clear0 -
Not sure if you have a vodafone PAYG phone already, if not the cheapest place to get one is carphone warehouse online or shop. Alternately ASDA's own phones should work with Vodafone as Asda mobile is carried on the vodafone network0
