Parking on outskirts of London?

Just wondering if there are any South Coasters out there who travel into London by car? Want to do a trip to West End for DH's birthday on 11 Oct (Saturday) to see a matinee and return home that evening or Sunday if I can find a hotel that won't break the bank. So looking for a good, cheap place to park close to tube or mainline station on outskirts of London - coming up on A3. Alternatively a budget hotel in similar location with cheap or free parking for the night. (Hope it's not a pipe-dream!)

Thanks in advance for your help.
Wimbledon has a reasonably sized car park (750 spaces) but it's expensive - £10 will only get you 6 hours. If you don't mind driving further in, you can get around 8 hours at Fulham Broadway for the same money. I don't think there are any car parks attached to southern stations on the northern line.

There are street parking options - I've parked in the vicinity of Raynes Park mainline station before and it was free, although this was a few years ago so it might have changed since then. Raynes Park is 1 stop from Wimbledon and 5 stops from Waterloo. Again, if you don't mind going further in, street parking in the Putney Bridge/Parsons Green area is £1.80 an hour but you only need to pay until 5pm.
