Porting my mobile number

if i port my number from 3 to say orange/ vodafone how long would i have to wait if i wanted to port it back.
Have recently left 3 due ot no decent renewal offers and have noticed on their website that the deals are better than i was offered !! so may take out a new contract with them, only i would like to keep my number.
Any advice welcome
