    david78,
Try to apply for a Capital One card. They did not charge any fee for BT even after your original BT with the form. MBNA charged me 35 Pounds for my 2nd and 3rd BT.

but Cap One don't do SBTs... do they ???
  • further food for thought.
After my 6 month interest free period, they charged me a £50 fee for a £4750 internet BT to my bank account. I dont believe they ever notified me the max was raised from £35 so I'll be calling them in the morning.

Thanks all for the advice. Its been a while but thanks. I had to wait for the card to come, and then set about transfering the balance.

Just to let everyone know that MBNA are now charging a 2% handling fee on Balance Transfers with no cap! I think it depends on when you applied and what your individual terms and conditions say but certainly for new applications from now on there is this charge.

I telephoned MBNA in the end and they wanted to charge me the full 2%. In the end I threatened to cancel the card and was put through to their loyalty department. Eventually they offered to cap the charge at £50. I have the money now and they have charged me £50 only so I am a happy bunny.

    Thanks to all.

But surely it doesn't matter because if you set up on when you apply you dont get charged (only on those after the application) so essentially its still good for the BT just not if you want to use it as a gateway.
Money, Money, Money ..... Banks/Casinos/Bookies give me all you money its a poor mans world....
  • I am just about to pay off Mr Smartsaver's MBNA card. He has a 17k limit ;D. If they won't renew the deal, can I take out a Virgin card and ask to transfer the credit limit over? Surely then there would be no carge for SBT as would be a new card? :-/

I seem to remember reading somewhere on these threads that you can't transfer between MBNA cards, but I could easily be wrong.
  • Mary is right - you can't transfer between MBNA cards (unless you could persuade them otherwise) ::)

I think there is a bit of confusion here :-/ it's not the balance I want to transfer - I will pay that off - it's the credit limit ie apply for Virgin card ask to have credit limit of 17k trans to Virgin card then close down MBNA. Will try it anyway at the end of the month and will let you know if it works ;)

Just finished 8 months @ 0% with MBNA RAC visa
    £15950 stoozed on a £16000 credit limit.
Phoned them to see what deal they would offer but only 15.2%
" your joking ?" but " NO " so paid it off. >:(

Also have a MBNA/Alliance Leicester card with £7000 limit,
this is my day to day spends card with 0.5% cashback.
Only goes to £1200 each month and always paid off.

Applied for a Virgin/MBNA master card and they have agreed
a £18000 limit by cancelling RAC card and reducing MBNA/ALCC
to £5000. Looks like my credit ceiling with MBNA is £23K.
Mind you, in hind sight, should have reduced ALCC to £2K.
    Still things to learn.

Just transferred £17300 to savings via current account
    at NO charge !

I didn't ask for a transfer on the credit application/terms form,
just phoned up to activate my card and did the BT at same time.
Very nice helpful guy,all done in a couple of minutes
and really cheered me up when he said there were no fees.
    MBNA... my be No 1 !!! ;D

Just hoping that the monthly repayments will be £5
guy on the phone said min/monthly repayments would
be 2.25% but will wait for the 1st statement.
Same thing happened with RAC/visa _ but still got the £5 min payment.
