without taking into account anything to do with the specific make/model of car, a 3 yr old vehicle is generally worth 1/3 to 1/2 it's value after 3 yrs. Very few are worth as much as 1/2. £21,000 /3 is £7,000 so that offer wasn't too far off. Considering you've got a 'larger vehicle' and the current 'economical situation' his offer mightn't have been too far off. :-(

Now that's what i call depreciation. I'd take the money and run before the real heat goes on regarding the new car tax laws. They're pretty grim here but across the border the car tax on those SUV type things is about to absolutely rocket.without taking into account anything to do with the specific make/model of car, a 3 yr old vehicle is generally worth 1/3 to 1/2 it's value after 3 yrs. TBH I have been cut up and bullied by so many SUV drivers that my sympathy for them is non-existent. I appreciate some people truly need them for work or sports reasons but my goodness, they are badly driven so often.0 -
i appreciate your concerns about the reckless SUV driver, but be rest assured that i personally am not one of them. i am a professional driver with advanced driving skills in private and commercial vehicles as well as teaching these skills.. i feel sad that the government feels that they need to crucify SUV owners as i feel there are plenty of other ways to raise money......for example cut the alchoholic benefit scheme, or stop all payments to job seekers who refuse any type of job wether it be cleaning sewers or waashing off graffitti. i work a 75 hour week six days just to get the pleasures in life. i am not money wasteful( i have two teenagers so i cant afford to be). i have cleaned sewers and washed graffitti in the past. i pay my taxes and rates and all the rest. My SUV is my Baby. the only pleasure that i really have next to my family, and gordon bloody brown wants to kill it off. !!!! i say.... sorry rant is now over!!!!!!:mad:On a slow boat to China0

I find there are bad drivers in every time of cars? Maybe you just focus on them because they are bigger?
A work colleague of mine insists every time she gets stuck behind a lane hogger on the motorway, its a BMW. Statistically, thats extremely unlikely, but its now something she focuses in on.0 -

+1
Though picking on SUVs is an easy target because there is little sympathy for the drivers of them for various reasons.
In fairness, they're not specifically targetting SUVs, ie, tax is up on all big engined cars, and fuel is up generally (though moreso on diesel, which is more typical in SUVs) and they tend to be hard(er) on fuel due to their weight and four wheel drive systems.
So, its back to saloon cars for me - the £500 a month for diesel and the looming £400 road tax wore me down...
