I know dealers wont touch then with a barge pole anymore. If you have a 1.0 ltr scrap heap however they would be more than glad to take it off your hands.

this thread has caught me eye while on the main site...

just to let you know that scrap metal prices are very high at the moment, so it will be worth contacting you local scrap metal merchants in the yellow pages, and asking them how much will they pay, also it might be worth you breaking it down for spares.... and is there any alu on there / that is fetching a high price than steel..

if i have jumped in, with the wrong advice...sorry, just trying to help...

scrap cars are bring anything between £100 and £170 depending on where you are, and what it is..

I'm currently selling my car (a 2002 Celica T-Sport since you didn't ask :-) ) and it's safe to say that the market is pretty quiet at the mo. Summer is generally a good time to sell, but not July when half the country isn't here, and not this year when the media is convincing everyone daily that they can't afford to feed themselves, never mind drive!
I had 1 view from 2 weeks in Autotrader. It's currently on Pistonheads.com (free) and I'm now seriously considering putting it on eBay with a reserve. If you're scared of eBay, have a look and see what similar cars have sold for, you may be pleasantly surprised.

One big drawback for Northern Ireland ebay sellers of cars is our location.

Some potential bidders confuse NI with the republic, so a mainland car will attract more buyers than us

I still believe anything that is priced right will sell just get realistic with your prices and people will always buy big cars whatever the cost of fuel

Is this any car? I've always had to pay to have my car scrapped before (between £50-£100) - it would be amazing to get something working the other way for a change :)
  • I need rid of an old landrover ASAP (it does drive!!) and have even offered it on the swap section of freecycle...........no one seems interested!?
Would i be able to get more for it in scrap...as there is alot of metal on it,lol? what is the process and where do i take it-seems a shame to destroy something that is perfectly usable but if i get some more £'s then thats more like it!
Any advice much appreciated, thanks guys, every little helps these days!!

To the O/P - depends on what it is.

I'd no trouble getting £41.5K for my x5 and that was just ringing round bavarian, prentices and a dealer in milton keynes - so dont listen to the 'its worth nothing' jibes.

A lot of them are still very sellable, but its a very bad time of the year to be trying it.

I'd also keep an eye on dealers and see who has maybe sold something similar recently then try for a trade in. If they have some confidence they are going to shift it again they will bid stronger.

Tell us more about yours and we can maybe advise better?

True in that very few people on the mainland will hop on an airplane to buy a nissan micra here when theres 50 within a 10 mile radius of where they live.

If its a rare spec or a rare car it could do ok on ebay - I sold a mercedes through ebay though - the guy flew over from london, i met him at the airport, paid me and i drove him to the docks in belfast.
