Hi
i am thinking about Canceling AOL and moving to O2 , i am out off contract with AOL however i would like some guidance about how to cancel AOL.
i was thinking of doing this:
Ring AOL and ask for my MAC
when MAC arrives sign up with O2
when O2 says my connection is activated cancel AOL.
is that above the correct way of going about this.
would i need to give AOL 30 days notise and return the modem as i cant see anything in the T/c about this.
i am due a billing on the 28th i think. so if i was to cancel AOL before then what would happen
thanks for reading

yes, thats right
perhaps AOL need some sort of notice, but if it isn't in the terms, then maybe they don't (you shouldn't need to return the modem though)
ideally you want to start the MAC process half way through your billing period, that way there would be enough time to cancel your AOL account after you've migrated to O2 successfully
if you started the process today, maybe you may be lucky - but maybe just borderline since it takes 5-7 working days usually... but i'd way until you're half way through your billing period.... if they need notice then sooner0 -

No need to return aol modem. Just give them 30 days notice to cancel and at the same time get the MAC code from them. Phone o2 and give them the MAC code. Make sure you phone aol after your contract is up with them to see if aol is cancelled.
Dont forget quidco with o2 when you sighn up online.:D0 -

I did it in June exactly the way you suggest.
You may be interested in the email I got from AOL when I applied for my MAC which is copied below. Once I changed to O2 I rang AOL and closed the account. My next AOL billing date was 2 July and they confirmed I would have nothing else to pay but would not get any refund for any period up to my next billing date.
Dear AOL Member,
You contacted us recently to request a Migration Authorisation Code (MAC), which would allow you to migrate your broadband service to another Internet Service Provider (ISP).
We can now confirm that your migration code is xxxxxxxxxx/xxxxx. It will be valid for 30 days and, if you wish to migrate, you will need to use it by 10/07/08. If you do not want to migrate you do not need to do anything with this code and can continue to use AOL Broadband as normal. Please note that if you use this code and you are still within your minimum contractual commitment period, any outstanding amounts due under your AOL Broadband Agreement will be debited from your payment method on or shortly after your first billing date after migration has taken place.
We recommend you file this email in a safe place as you will need to pass this MAC code onto your new ISP. Please note that until migration to your new ISP has been completed, your broadband service will continue to be provided by AOL Broadband, and you'll continue to be charged by us. If you didn't request cancellation of your AOL account when you requested your MAC code and you subsequently migrate your broadband service to another ISP, please ring us back on 0844 499 5555** to cancel down your account completely.
If you'd like any further information on the benefits of AOL Broadband, or to re-order, please don't hesitate to call us on our broadband helpline at 0844 499 5555**.
Alternatively, if you have any further queries about moving your broadband account to your new ISP, you can contact one of our experts online at AOL Keyword: Live Help.
We wish you the very best for the future.
Yours sincerely,
AOL Broadband TeamRegards

Biggest problem I had several years ago after cancelling AOL was getting all the damn software off of the pc!0

A few weeks ago AOL offered a £6.99 per month plan including unlimited broadband & all day UK calls to any customers asking for a MAC/wanting to cancel.
Something to be aware of in case it's still being offered0
