I know I would look stupid but, does that mean I can purchase ten £10 vouchers and get another one free :D

That would work great because you could go to the back of the queue and then spend it again

    I don't think you can buy voucher's for that reason :D .

If you get vouchers with a purchase, does that affect your returns entitlement; ie, if you buy an item over 50 quid and decide to return it do you get to keep the vouchers or do they deduct the voucher amount from your refund?

Yeh, if you get free vouchers or a free gift and you take something back they will ask for the freebie back

Really... and what if you no longer have the vouchers by the time you need to make the return?

I think they would give you your money back less the voucher.

But if you make a return and they give you your money back less the voucher, then it would be as though you have purchased the voucher and so the voucher would not be 'free'.

Will Argos give the £10 for a purchase of £99.99?

No, but if you add 888/1001 (£10 gift voucher) to your order, they then add the free promo code and because of a glitch with their tills, this voucher ends up being the free one! I tried it this weekend - my bill came to £96.98, I then asked to buy a £10 gift voucher, and the total came to £96.98!!
