    They expand when you screw in the bolt. Be sure to get the type I said, with the removable nut. Drill the hole deep enough for the body. You can , if you want, cut off some of the bolt if it sticks out too much once you have fitted the timber bearers, or joist hangers if you use them. BTW....Timber bearers should go with the 4" as the height.
