O2 Upgrade

Last weekend I followed MSE and forum advice and phoned O2 to try for a better deal on my mobile contract, due to end next week. I cited DialaPhone showing a good deal at Vodafone and asked if they could better it. I had a £30/m contract subsidised by dialaphone by £180 in 3 cashbacks (2 received so far). I was aiming for about £10 month and 400 texts.

The nice guy started by offering me a £25/m deal and kept saying texes which made me chuckle. I asked about the types of phone I could have included and he suggested a Nokia 6500 classic. I then suggested what about a Nokia 6300 and he offered a slightly better deal on a £15/m 18 month contract. Then I said what about no phone and he went away and offered £150 credit on the contract.
So I ended up with 18 month contract at £15/m with no phone and £150 credit which averages £6.67 a month. I was well pleased. I was on the phone for about 40 mins.:rotfl:

He then said he would see if there were any special deals for O2 customers and came back with free broadband.

Yes, FREE BROADBAND. As long as I remained an O2 customer. 8Mb download and no limit (fair use) download. I of course accepted but then realised that I had a contract with BT until Feb, so I will contact them then to see what deal they can do. That will saving me £300 a year when I get it.:j

I am so pleased with the deal I got, not having to send back bills to get cashback and that I have a better deal for less money. Thanks MSE for providing the advice.:T

If you are o2 customer you can get broadband via them for £7.50, so imagine if your mobile bill was 15 a monthm then total cost is 22.50.

BUT there is that annoying BT line - I too am on o2, they offereed broadband for £7.50, I said no chance, we just cancelled BT line after 12 months to go back to Virgin. That BT line we got in the first place to get broadband with Sky tv - which never materialised after a month, and then BT would not let us cancel the line until 12 months were up.

    12 * £7.50 = £90 (normal cost for O2 customers)
    12 * £12.50 = £150 (normal cost for non-O2 customers)

Where did you get £300 from?

Not to mention its 18 months and there is not new mobile - and you are tied to BT line.
  • The £300 was from my current deal with BTinternet which also includes parental controls, free calls and digital vault. So when I change I won't be paying that money.
Hotkee - i am already tied to the BT line with the contact, 18 months helped drive the price down, and for not having a new mobile they gave me £150. I am looking around for a phone on ebay where people sell their upgrades (so new and unused) for alot less than retail.
