Just as an update - after trawling through a lot of sites ( Some very good ones mentioned above :T ) checking numerous airports, flights, hotels, etc and also trying to find reviews of the hotels/areas I have come to the conclusion that next week is a bit of a non-starter - so decided to go the week after ( 2nd August )

Additionally, after talking it through wife my better half, we have decided to look into hiring a cottage in France ( South Brittany via Welcomecottages.com), getting flights to Nantes and hiring a car locally.

Hopefully should have it all booked tomorrow ( Weds ).

But, A huge thank you for all your help and the very useful advice that we have all come to expect from fellow MSE's.
