well i grew up in Bexhill and my parents are still there. If you are looking for high excitement its not the place for you but i think it has a lot going for it. Its by the sea and even in high season the beach won't be over crowded like hastings and eastbourne. It is fairly quite, i remember the outcry when the local donut shop wanted to open after 6 o clock! there may not be a lot going on in bexhill but the local area is great, i think the best of both worlds the sea and the downs and not too far to brighton if you miss the excitement. the down side is the transport links are pretty poor to get up to london it takes longer now on the train than when we had steam engines apparently! bit of a lack of good pubs as well. yes there are a few older people but as a teenager i found plenty to amuse myself. did you have a particular area in mind?0

the main road - A259 to anywhere - can be a nightmare during the week
or if there is an accidentsmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

If you have school age children then the schools there are excellent.
The local shopping area is ok, has the usual shops, banks, building societys. Sainsburys is up behind the Station (links to Eastbourne, Brighton, London Victoria, Hastings, Rye (then on to Ashford International).
On the borders of Hastings and Bexhill you will find Ravenside Retail Park, it has a massive B&Q, Tesco, Next, Currys, Wickes, PC World, Pet City is soon to open. We also have a Bowling Alley and Swimming pool there.
Like any area, it has it's good and bad points, i just think it boils down to personal preferences, what one person likes may not suit another.
My grandparents live there and my aunt and uncle a 5 min walk from them.
I would say that Collington is much nicer than Sidley, but the housing is a total contrast. Alot of Sidely was council/HA owned but alot are now privately owned.
As mentioned in a previous post, the A259 can be a bit hit and miss sometimes. It takes approx an hour from St Leonards over to Brighton Marina.
(so i would think approx 40 mins ish form Bexhill - again traffic depending).
Bexhill is quiet (much quiter than London - Big culture Shock) but if you are looking for a slower pace of life then its lovely.
As mentioned Brighton and Eastbourne arent far away.
If you want somewhere more trendy, have a look at Eastbourne Harbour theres plenty of choice there.

I moved out of Bexhill in 2000 and Sidley has gone downhill since then, with a fair bit of drug issues and vandalism etc.
The schools are fine but do your homework, I don't rate the secondary schools much apart from St Richards, but none of them are dreadful, but it depends what your standards are.
Really depends what you are looking for, the rail links to London are poor (2 hours through Eastbourne or Battle) the single carriageway roads aren't great and they are still bleating on about building a relief road, or bypass so watch where you buy isn't right next to any planned route. There is also an issue of work as there is little major employers locally, unles you have a trade etc that you can easily transfer. Hospital is about 10 miles away (Conquest in Hastings)
If you want quiet then I would look at Polegate which has quicker rail links, but isn't a big town, more of a suburb of Eastbourne, other than that Eastbourne is far more lively.
I am not a fan of Rother council as they seem to be stuck in the past, but the town now seems full of takeaways and charity shops, but without Ravenside as out of town shopping the town centre is fairly poor. Make sure you look at it on a cold wet day as living by the sea isn't a bowl of cherries all the time.Nothing to see here :beer:0 -
Anyone looking to buy now needs their head examining.
Prices are in freefall.
They are dropping 2%+ a month. On a £200k house, that equates to £4000 a month. On a 25 year mortgage, that means every month you wait you save £8000 on repayments. so if you wait 2 months you save £16,000
So, simply, if you wait 2 months, you'll save a years post-tax wages.
So wait 2 months, save throwing away a year of your life.
Do the math.Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.0 -

My niece (6) and nephew (9) went to a VERY good C of E school until March, my nephew was fine there while my niece struggled. The teacher's attitude to my niece was appauling, in the end my sister pulled them out the school and has put them in a more local school. My niece is thriving and her confidence has grown emensely. She is a far more happier child now.
Unfortunately sometimes the best schools don't always meet the needs for some children.
I have known this senerio in both the state and private sectors.
I was thinking about the secondary school that my cousins went to in Bexhill, in comparission the secondary that my sister went to over in St Leonards was total crap.
I do agree though St Richards is by far the best.
There is aslo the option of private schools if that option suits better.

squatnow this is not aproblem for us.house prices have dropped by a slight margin in our area and are still selling only a bit slower.i will not have a mortgage so no problem there and what i will be buying will be alot cheaper. many thanks to other posters about bexhill and the schools.will look at polegate as well.as for eastbourne harbour looks very nice but hate new homes with a passion so thats a no go but what is eastbourne like itself? Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)0

Outskirts of Bexhill might be worth looking at too, especially Cooden & Little Common. Or even Hooe, although that's pretty rural, but not isolated.
If you were living in/around Bexhill it would probably pay you to drive to Crowhurst or Battle if you wanted the London train.
I'm not sure you'd stick the journey along the A259 to Brighton if you had to do it daily.
I'm between Battle & Rye so not terribly familiar with Bexhill although the Old Town is quaint, in a refined & dignified way. The area around the Town Hall not so, but I guess you wouldn't be looking there
Although there's a reputation for an older resident, we're not all there yet! Plenty of families as the good schools show - schools can't shine without pupilsWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
