Having solved the sound problem on MIL's PC, another major headache has occurred! Have installed latest Skype prog (ver 3.8, downloaded 20/07/2008). Every time we go to use Skype either in or out going calls, video and sound break up and 'locks' the computer after a few seconds (mouse pointer sticks/freezes Windows task manager doesn't open, etc. Nothing on the computer responds and have to turn off power to machine at plug socket then reboot. Have uninstalled and reinstalled both Skype and webcam software many times without success! NB This webcam seems to work fine if using Windows Live Messenger - no freezing/lockups! Her PC has AsRock KS71 mobo and Sempron processor. Has 1.5GB of ram. Broadband speed between 2 and 4 GB. Using Logitech Quickcam Communicate STX Plus with latest software (ver 11.5, downloaded 20/07/2008). Any suggestions to solve this pig of problem? Thanks

Lately I've found Skype to be dreadful. My mom and I both have the both up to date versions, supposedly to make it 'better'. It was just fine on the last version but it drops calls now, breaks up, suddenly you can't hear the other person. I can actually feel my blood pressure rising with it:eek:0

I always say why fixit if it ain't broke !
Updated programs are not always better even if they say they are, if you have a no problems, and the version you are using is OK then DON'T update.
Go here for earlier versions

Did it work properly with an older version?
You can download older versions of Skype here http://www.oldapps.com/skype.htm
not sure why it would completely freeze the computer though. Is it only when you use video chat? Could it be possibly a video card issue?
Not really sure. Skype forums might be a good place to ask as well.0 -
It's a new webcam which came with version 10 on cd - froze with that also! Hence the use of latest 11.5. As said it works with Windows Live with no probs! Have sent a message to Skype also. Seems to be lots of people having problems with the Logitech/Skype mix! One suggestion I've seen is to unistall the quickcam part of the software which works for some. Are there some generic drivers out there to run this webcam without installing the Logitech progs? This would confirm if it is a software issue or not!I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0

Had a response from Skype. All they seem to suggest is to download the latest version of Skype - we have, adjust firewall settings - we have, and rename Skype application file and re run to get connected to the internet! I am not very optomistic!I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0
