Motorpoint
Has anyone any views on Motorpoint car supermarket?
I've been looking for a nearly new (with low mileage) Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 Design, 5 door. Such cars seem to be going for around 9000-9500, if Auto Trader and www.networkq.co.uk is anything to go by.
But then I found one at Motorpoint (Newport branch). The car is only 4 months old, done 1000 miles, and is advertised at just 8500. So I put a deposit on it hope to collect next week.
But why is it so cheap? Should I smell a rat?

My husband bought a van from the Derby Motorpoint 7 years ago. I'm not an expert on any of this but I think you will find it may be classed as a grey import. His was previously registered in Ireland. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will give you a more detailed answer.0

Don't forget to use up your Tesco Clubcard points as clubcard deals at Motorpoint - 4p per point

sorry, just realised you've already put a deposit down so to late for you. Hope this reminds others about the Tesco deal.
Anyone paid for a car completely in deal vouchers yet?0 -
You will probably end up being the 3rd registered keeper.0

Motorpoint are like most of the other biggies, no frills, no discounts, pay your money and don't come back. By which I mean their cars will be covered by the manufacturers warranty so they will direct you to the main agent.
It is likely to be an import car so may not have the same lengthmanufacturers warranty, you need to check.
Bought a new Clio 172 from there, (Derby), a few years ago. No problems after we got the message accross that we didn't want finance/paint protection/breakdown insurance etc. IE, same as the rest but usually a fair bit cheaper. Buying was a bit like being processed as a battery hen tho';)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
I bought my car from Motorpoint Derby 5 years ago - my only problem came with the main dealers who couldn't recognise it on their computers as it's an import and when something supposedly went wrong with it a week outside its warranty, they wouldn't even entertain doing a repair as a goodwill gesture, whereas they would have done if I'd bought it from a main dealer.
That said, I take it to a local garage anyway, the fault wasn't a fault (long story) and I saved myself £4k on the new price. My sister has just bought her 2nd new car from them. It just means that on a new car, you are the 2nd owner. But I can live with that.0 -
Thanks for the input guys. The Vauxhall Corsa I'm buying can't be an import, since Vauxhalls are known as Opels outside the UK.
I haven't seen the car yet, and won't see it until the day I pick it up. And yet, I've already paid the £300 deposit.
What worries me really is the cosmetic condition of the car. The salesman told me on the phone that the car's "immaculate". Should I believe him? What comeback have I got if it's not immaculate?0 -

If it is not immaculate then demand your deposit back as it won't be as described. Just be resaonable though.0 -

Thanks. But if it comes to it, how can I prove that the salesman verbally described the car as immaculate, when on the phone? Aren't verbal contracts not worth the paper they're written on?0 -
That's the gamble of buying without viewing. That said, a 4 month old car should be immaculate. To answer your Q, a verbal agreement is worth nothing in a court of law.
I bought a new UK car from Motorpoint a while back with full 3 year warranty, no problems at all.
Apart from the fact it was a Renault Megane and I will never ever ever ever touch a Renault again.
Good luck and enjoy your new car.0 -
jammin,
I don't work for Motorpoint but have had to visit all their sites on business for a different reason.
I was actually impressed with the cars I saw, and the fact they have valet bays at all the sites.
I think a lot of their cars are ex-mobility cars but all the cars I saw did look immaculate. Any cars go to Derby first then onto the other sites.
I had to buy a car at Christmas as after 22 years of driving company cars my new job came with a car allowance. I bought one from EvanHalshaw.com and although I am very happy with it, next time I will compare with Motorpoint
Anyway, hope you are pleased with your new car
