Estate Agent increasing my Rent

No one is suggesting the OP hand in their written notice :rolleyes: There are ways of telling the agent/landlord you are unhappy with a rent increase that don't require notice to be given. (I just asked them to clarify the notice I'd have to give, that focused their minds on keeping me
)
If it comes to giving written notice then I would not recommend doing that unless a move has actually been arranged.0 -
Firstly thanks to everyone or their replies and advice.Sorry for the delay in getting back on here.
Anyway good news. My rent is not going up.
My landlord was unhappy with the estate agent and felt that due to our good relationship that it was unnecessary to increase the rent.
It seems that the estate agent was only interested in increasing their income. No discussions were taken between them and the landlord even though they told me they had.
We were both sent similar letters saying the rent was going up. The landlord found out on the same morning I did.
When I asked the estate agent who would benefit from the increase I was told it would go to the landlord and the estate agent wouldn't take any extra. Their fee would remain the same not a penny more.
However as I later discovered the EA takes a percentage. So any increase means they do get an increase!!:mad:
Anyway it isn't going up and I'm happy.0 -

This sort of thing is a good example of why, when a Letting Agent is "managing" a property, tenants should always get their LL's name & address (as they are legally entitled to do).
Sometimes LLs and LAs do play one off against the other so as to make it appear to the tenant that there is no room for negotiation because the matter is down to the other party, but it does also seem to be the case that some LLs genuinely do not always know what "their" LA is up to, supposedly on their behalf.
Good for you Southpaw for challenging the increase & getting a result.0
