My daughter has a Virgin package of TV, Internet and phone. she got it last November, I think, when she moved into a new flat. She has just moved again where there is no cable for Virgin installed. She is on a very tight budget. She does not need a phone line as she has her mobile. she does not need the TV as she has a Freeview box so she just needs broadband as she is doing an open Uni course where she does it over the internet and it is part of the course's agreement.
She contacted virgin about the move as she was prepared to fulfil her years contract with them but as there is no cable, this is not possible. They say she will need to pay over £100 to get out of the contract. If she starts with them with an internet contract via the phone line, it is technically another company, although it goes under the name of Virgin. They would waive the get out fee as soon as she signs up to the new deal again but the new deal will run for another 12 months. She does not know if she will be in that flat as she has only signed up for 6 months and may not be able to afford to stay there. There is also the problem of having to have the phone line connected by BT as it is not a live line. That has to be paid for and they also tie her in for 12 months if she pays for BT line. She can get her phone line through another company on a 6 months contract but BT will still need to open the line. She never uses the home phone. All this is going to be very expensive. Can anyone out there give any better options, please?

what about those mobile broadband offers which are being advertised these days?
i have no idea what they are like as i have no experience with them what so ever. as far as i have seen they are offered on a pay as you go basis where you pay monthly but don't have a contract. you would need to look into it further to get the exact details and i have no doubt there would be better deals going about for land based broadband but once you take into consideration the land line costs and the fact that this has no contract, it may be the best option. The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits0 -
