Credit Card for someone with no income

I was wanting to apply for a credit card for my wife but she is a housewife and hence has no income. The Tesco one was my first choice because of the clubcard deals but they say that you need at least £5k income for their card.
Does anyone know if there is a chance she will get the card anyway?
If not are there any cards out there that base eligibility on household income rather than personal?
(I know I could apply and just get her a second card but I already have 4 other CC and don't really want to make another application right now)

Hi
How about making her an additional holder on one of your existing cards?Mortgage-free wannabe!0 -
She is already on one of my cards (the other 3 are for stoozing) but I liked the idea earning Clubcard deals with the Tesco card and didn't want to have this added to my own collection.0

Oh I see. There was a thread on here a while ago from Curry Queen who applied for a Tesco card and her only income was through benefits, she got declined but then appealed and got the card. (Sorry, not sure how to add a link to it!) Does your wife have any income through benefits, tax credits that would add up to £5000?Mortgage-free wannabe!0

Hi, I'm also a housewife and got the Tesco CC in my name but with hubby as second card holder. The application asked for his income as I was applying for a second card for him, I also put down child benefit and child tax credit under my income. They gave me a limit which equals my annual income on it's own so I assume they took his income into consideration as well. HTH.0

Interesting, thanks for the replies.
I may try and apply in her name. With child benefits, tax credits and DLA she probably does have about £5k a year but I didn't know you could put these down as anual income. She would allow me to be a second card holder as well (I hope!) so they may allow her to get one.
Does anyone know if they do a credit search on the second card holder, or if in future a credit search on me will show this new card?0 -
Technically, I suppose it depends on whether they ask for "income" or "salary" details. However, I would not recommend lying on an application form.R00STER00 wrote:With child benefits, tax credits and DLA she probably does have about £5k a year but I didn't know you could put these down as anual income.
No, because the "first" cardholder is solely responsible for the management of the account.R00STER00 wrote:Does anyone know if they do a credit search on the second card holder?
No, you won't be shown as an additional cardholder due to the reason above. However, when you are searched for future applications in your own name, the "financial association" search will reveal your wife's card to your new lender.R00STER00 wrote:...or if in future a credit search on me will show this new card?0 -
I spoke to Tesco personal finance about this as I wanted to apply but my earnings are just under £5k, they said as long as it was guaranteed income you could include it, so I included child benefit (not tax credits as they can sometimes be stopped). I got accepted for a card!Mortgage-free wannabe!0
