Tesco credit card

Can anyone tell me roughly how long it usually takes for Tesco to make a decision on a credit card application please?

I decided to bite the bullet and apply for this one as I'd benefit more from the loyalty bonus points on using it for shopping, plus the 0% interest till May next year.

I applied online but didn't get an immediate decision though, presumably because I'm not currently employed but I fulfill the criteria for their income levels etc, so hopefully shouldn't be a problem. I just wondered how long I could expect to wait to hear from them (I'm kinda impatient like that ;) )

Cheers! :)

  • I applied on line and got an instant acceptance. The forms to sign arrived in a couple of days and the card was received 10 days after posting the paperwork back. All in all pretty good service I thought.

And now for the query. I included my clubcard details with the application and the credit card has a small clubcard sign on the back. The person on the till at the Tesco garage suggested using the credit card as both a clubcard and credit card as that way more points are received. can anyone confirm this?

It took ages when we got ours C_Q. Then we got word we were declined. We wrote asking why and detailing our accounts/finances etc, then we got word back to say not only were they accepting us after all...they were giving us a better level of card than we'd applied for in the first place. Go figure.

Sometimes, I think they have to refuse a certain percentage of applicants and it's luck of the draw who they pick on, lol.

Edit: @ Clive.....yes, you do get bonus points when you use your credit card to pay in Tescos outlets.

We use our card for every single purchase we can, it fairly makes the points add up.

  • Well CQ I applied on line the other day. I have sent for my credit reports from Experian and Equifax but they will have been poor in the past. I hope that having a mobile phone contract and a Next card may have improved things (got this latter by ordering something from the directory did not actually apply as such)

Anyway car and contents ins. due next month and so have got a new policy for contents and 2 quotes for car ins. now I am worried these will show as searches, because my Tesco card application was not given a decision on-line. Perhaps I will try and appeal if declined which I may well be as CCJ still showing until june 2006. Perhaps I have boobed appllying.

Watch this space- i'll tell you if you tell me!

So you can successfully appeal being initially turned then, that's good to know! I feel I might have a better chance if I'm able to actually explain my circumstances to them, as they're no doubt wondering where my income comes from (disability benefits) when I've stated I'm not working! There's no room to put that sort of information on the forms though

I've had a horrible thought, and I'm hoping someone might be able to confirm this, but I vaguely remember reading on another thread that the Halifax own this card??? _pale_

If so, I could kick myself for even applying for it but I thought I'd gain more benefit from the loyalty reward aspect than a Sky card

I'm in a similar position of not having a fantastic credit history, was in debt years ago although they're paid off long ago, but then I didn't have any credit at all for the past few years until I got the Cap One and Barclaycard about 6 mths ago, which I've paid off in full every month.

This is my first venture into getting what I call a "proper" credit card LOL! They can only say yes or no I guess, but it'll mean having to wait another 6 mths or so before applying for anything else if they turn me down as that will be on my file too :(

Good luck with yours and I'll let you know how I get on! :)

The Tesco card is run by RBS (HBOS run the Sainsbury's card). To save any future anguish ;), you can check out a list of "who owns who" here...
