Hi Klare

You've gotta be a tough negotiator! If you look through the phones and utilities board you'll find this thread

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1122310650,23242,

about how to negotiate your contract down. Essentially you need to look through your bills and get a good idea of how many minutes and texts you use (or if you are strict enough with yourself to cut down then how many you intend to use). The enter this info into one of the mobile phone tariff search engines that martin recommends (see the thread). That'll come up with the best price tariff (probably won't be orange). If I were you I would do the research now and then wait until November (presumably that's when your contract is renewed and Orange will be most keen to keep hold of you). Phone them up and tell them that you have seen a better deal elsewhere and whilst you would like to continue with orange if they can't match their deal you'll be closing your account with them. These magic words should see you transferred to customer retention where the folk have better powers of negotiating. They should match the offer you quote.

We recently did this and my posting on the process can be found here:

I am going to move this thread to the mobile phone board as you will probably get more response from people who can help you.:)
Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

if they are unable to change tarriff until November I'd say it's more likely they are only 6 months into teh contract then rather than coming to the end of 12 months. As for the 6years loyalty and recognition, assuming you took a nice new phoen 6 months or so ago when you renewed the contract, it's all give and take
