cycle forum

With rising oil prices and people looking to reduce costs, wouldn't it be a good "moneysaving" topic to have a forum on cycling/commuting, i've recently taken to commuting to work on a bike and I feel fitter and financially better off.
Its around 8 miles to my place work and I never thought I could actually manage it, but i've overcome my personal limitationswith a lot of effort and great sound advice of buying a quality bike from a local bike shop.
My biggest gripe about cycling is that I think the accessoroes could be a lot cheaper, as this site is very well used, I am sure its members could help locate the bargains?.
Anyway, just a thought

I also cycle quite a bit although not as much as I used to - here in London it's getting scary, plus I get all my public transport fares paid via my work.
But yes, cycling is becoming very popular. I don't know if a dedicated board is called for, though it might be a possibility.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

I just find that people are put off by the feeling that they aren't able to do it?, also as a moneysaving site this seems to fit the bill very well, i've cycled for the last 2 weeks and saved £50 in petrol, its helped me lose nearly a stone in weight, and believe it or not it takes just 10-14 minutes longer by bike.
Perhaps a sub - forum on the transport thread?0 -

Yes a sub forum seems ideal and I would certainly read and post in there.
Well, Admin will read this thread and I'm sure they will consider what can be done.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
For cheap cycling accessories check out the Aldi weekly offers, twice a year they do cycling stuff. The clothes are vrey good, the clipless pedals and shoes are pretty good as well. Some of the other stuff is OK as well. The lights arne't much cop though. Lidl do something similar as well. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -

The problem with Aldi and Lidl is that there aren't too many about, I am also pretty sure you can't buy from them online.0 -

Wow! Sounds like an ideal way to combat rising fuel costs (I only do 8 miles each way too in the car but sat in traffic eats some up), longer journey times due to the awful traffic jams where I am (need to get from home to my office which is very near the M25 Dartford Crossing) & also maybe help with my ongoing attempt to lose some weight & tone up (but with little time or money to visit a gym I don't do the exercise thing just now).
I'll keep an eye on this thread to see what happensThanks for raising this OP & thanks for everyone's responses so far!
Sad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out0 -
I have asked this elsewhere but for those of you that do cycle...do you have insurance to cover your bike being stolen and if so who with? I desperately want to buy a new bike after my last one was stolen but am worried about a new one being stolen as well.Looking for ways to save
