Anyone used this for insulation and is it any good
Having solid walls i have been looking around for energy savings and this is only thing there appears to be apart from putting a stud wall up which is out of the question.
But looking in wickes at it. these rolls are only 2 to 3mm thick so i cant see if they will make much of a difference. Can you put two layres on to make it a bit better. Or is there anything else that iv missed.
Thanks

It's a terrible, terrible fire hazard (and it looks awful).
Don't you have a cavity walls for cavity wall insulation?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Well in c/h home's everyone down here will be wearing two jumpers from now on, taking into account the huge power costs coming.0

Considered 2" external insulation, re-covered to create the stone walls over the top as they were. Not a cheap option, but there are grants available and this is used extensively by local authorities where whole estates have been done.
see decopierre on youtube I think Art of Stone in Manchesrter do it.0 -
I use it as a wall lining about 2mm thick makes the walls feel warmer to the touch and also hides some small bumps in the wall very easy to stick on just need a strong mixture of wallpaper past0

We used the polystyrene in our last house, the small bedroom had no heating so we lined the room with this and used a double layer on the outside wall.
We used thick wallpaper paste which had been stood for a few hours after we mixed it and it stayed on much to our surprise.
We put lining paper on top and then ordinary wallpaper.
It made a big difference and the room seemed much warmer afterwards.

I read on the back of wallpaper paste and use the strong mixture something like Embossed wallpaper it works fine I have used this for years and sticks perfectly to the polystyrene rolls.
I just apply it prior to hanging and use a stuff brush to apply to wall.
I got the rolls from B&Q usually warmaline or something like that
The only thing you got to ensure if that you leave time to dry before applying wallpaper something like 48 hoursyorksguy11 wrote: »You say you use strong wall paper paste, On the pack i read it said you need to use ready mixed paste which was quite expensive. One problem is the walls in winter can get damp and i dont want the covering comming off0 -

When I was a lad (the sixties:rolleyes: ) we had this under the wallpaper in large parts of the house. I remember it made the walls feel warm. One disadvantage I remember is that it makes the paper easily marked by accidental contact with sharp objects. Small children (like me:cool: ) also found it terribly satisfying to stick their fingernails through it.0
