Are there any hotel review sites which have predominantly comments submitted by people who have stayed at those hotels, if you see what I mean.
I seem to recall seeing one such site last year but for the life of me I cannot remember it.
Many thanks

Sorry but I never use tripadvisor. If you want Victor Meldrew's opinion, that's where to go.wishiwasarichgirl wrote: »tripadvisor is pretty good.
In all honesty, I've seen London's absolute best hotels slated on there and it makes me wonder what the hell these people wanted? Gold floors? Diamond chandeliers?
I've also seen extremely dodgy hotels given 4* ratings when I know for an absolute fact that hookers rent rooms there and post their business cards under the doors.
I've worked in a hotel when we had to get the police to eject several people (travelling together) for wrecking their rooms. Within 24hours they had posted damning reviews on Tripadvisor.
The best, most accurate review site is Venere...
...but apparently their website breaks the filter here?!!
It's the only site that I will use at work and have faith in enough to forward their information to my clients.0

A link to Venere is banned on MSE because it was repeatedly SPAMmed on here.
I use TripAdvisor. Everybody has different expectations of hotels, and everybody is allowed an opinion!Gone ... or have I?0

            Really? I'm shocked!
I fully appreciate that everyone is entitled to their opinion but it's my job to visit hotels and use the experience to match them to my clients. I can think of three 5* hotels that I know well and are utterly amazing with exceptionally high standards of service yet they receive 3* reviews on tripadvisor.
I just hope that people bear in mind that the reviewer may have totally different expectations to themselves and make their own mind up.0

I think Trip Advisor is a very good resource. If you read a few pages of reviews for each property it soon becomes obvious which people are whinging and moaning as they have the most ridiculous expectations. The travellers photos section is really good too - to help you get a much better idea of what the place looks like.
In fact some of the reviews are pretty good entertainment - I often wonder why people go on holiday and then take snaps of such items as limescale in bath, thin bath towels, dust on the top of wardrobes etc - have they nothing better to do? Then of course there are the people who go somewhere exotic and moan that the food was 'too foreign' or that there were 'too many bugs':rotfl:0

I know what you mean! Some people should just stay at home with their duster and rubber gloves. Then of course there are the people who go somewhere exotic and moan that the food was 'too foreign' or that there were 'too many bugs':rotfl:
I could tell some tales about the incredible requests hotels get from guests. One of my classics was a guy who put a written complaint into the manager on check-out because there were only four pillows on his bed plus four spares in the wardrobe and he wanted six! He was staying on his own?!!0

Just because you had a 5* experience at a hotel, it does not mean that somebody else will. I visited a riad in Marrakech that has stunning reviews on all review sites, but I hated it. All because the reviews on Venere match your own experiences more, it does not mean that will be the case for everyone.
I did previously use Venere, but due to their attitude towards SPAM, I would not go near them any longer. They tried to take advantage of MSE's wide readership, not a good thing in my book.Gone ... or have I?0

oh I know loads of reviews on tripadvisor are terrible, but then it makes you appreciate the hotel even more when you get there cos you think "well thank god it's better than I was expecting!"Wiggly:heartpulsFB0
