I had one years ago, the scars are minute, nothing to worry about. I cant even see the one on my front hip but i can the one in my belly button, but it's really really small.
The worst thing about it was the pain in my shoulders later that day and vomiting.

Also dont make the msitake I did, i took the pad out at the hospital not realising I would thne have a period with it, so leave it in.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I too had a laparoscopic hysterectomy and have only the tiniest scar. Good surgeons will place the incision in a natural crease of the belly button area which means that when it is healed, there is a hair's breadth line within a natural wrinkle.

If it is the thought of the anaesthetic which is bothering you, you are within your rights to speak to the anaesthetist beforehand and ask him nicely to administer slowly. It takes them a few seconds longer to do but means you drift off much more slowly (like going to sleep naturally) rather than being what some people perceive as being plunged into nothingness.

I was absolutely terrified the first time I had to have an op (a caesarean) and asked a nurse to hold my hand until I had gone under. The hospital happily obliged. I took a nurse away from her duties for a few minutes but it made such a difference to me so well worth the hospital allowing it. Having patients leaping off trolleys and dashing up corridors isn't the best way to run wards and theatres, is it?!

You will be fine and perhaps better to have the op willingly than let your health continue to deteriorate so that you end up having it done as an emergency instead of calmly and well prepared. Good luck.

I've had experience of this with my ex, you really have nothing to worry about it is a very minor procedure with very little to no scarring.

Just think of us on MSE holding your hand, that should take your mind off anything :D
  • I had one last year, for a susp[ected ectopic pregnancy. My scar is so tiny, only i can see it. And the pain afterwards was quite minimal.

I had one years ago. The scar is tiny and faded quicky. The only downside was that I had some pains for about a week afterwards because you get filled up with air and it can affect your joints for a short time. The pain wasn't bad and not everyone gets this afterwards. Good luck!
