Anyone had a laparoscopy?

Options
I am booked in for one of these soon and dreading it. It is for ladies problems. I am scared of the scars that it will leave and the thought of been asleep and recovering, taking time off work. I am close to not going.

  • Hello

I know you are feeling nervous but it really is nothing to worry about.

I had one a few years back and I went in at 10am in the morning and was out at 8pm that night.

I have a scar approx 1-2cm max at my belly button, which you can no longer see.

I was back at work within a week of the op.

Hope all goes well for you and you get the results you hope for! :A

No, dont worry and please dont cancel.

I had one about 5 years ago for tummy pains (low down). because of family history of ovarian cysts i had to go but thankfully it was IBS causing the trouble. From what i remember i wasnt asleep very long, cant be specific but it was maybe only 30 mins. Mind you, it was my first ever op and i nearly didnt go either but was pleased i did as it needed sorting out.

As for scar, its tiny, a couple of small lines at tummy button. strangely my friend has had one aswell and she has practically no scar at all. You are sore for couple of days, i was sent home with bagful of tablets which were good.

Really - its not that bad. Its the thinking time before hand thats the problem.
    Good luck and please go.
Just to win anything would be great!!

hi there, i had one 7 years ago and the only scar is one on tummy button as others have said, they put a stitch to hold it which dissolved and that pulled a bit. Apart from that it was fine nothing to be scared of and I am really very scared of operations trust me!!
good luck, you will be fine x

I had one on 10th August last year and I had a laparascopic hysterectomy last March. The only mark I have at all from both ops is a small pink mark on my tummy which is only a few millimetres. In fact, I just looked to check the size and struggled to find it. Laparascopic treatment has come on leaps and bounds over the years and if your doctor specialises in this, there should be minimal or no scarring.

I had one a few years ago when they were looking for cysts and endometriosis.

I wasn't allowed to eat or drink from a certain time the night before. On the day of the op, they gave me a gown and dressing gown and showed me into a room with lockers where I got changed and locked my bag away.

I was sat in a room with other ladies all going down for similar ops. One by one were were called away for a pre-op chat with the consultant and anaesthatist.

When it was my turn for the op, they walked me down to the pre-op room and got me comfy on the trolley. I was wired up to heart monitors etc., then I was knocked out. That was a nice feeling - they told me to look at the clock and I just floated off :D

Woke up in a small ward. They checked I was ok, and gave me a hot drink and some toast. Once I felt ok to stand, they sat me back in another waiting room with the other ladies. We were checked over again, and once given the all clear, we were taken back to the changing room and allowed to go.

I have a couple of tiny scars around my tummy button, but you have to look really hard to see them. They didn't even stand out when I had a very brown tummy after my hols in May!

Hope that puts your mind at rest a bit, and hope it goes ok on the day.
Here I go again on my own....

Like the others have said it is nothing to worry about.
The only thing I would advise is to take loose fitting trousers for when you get to go home as I was bloated after it.
As for scaring you can hardly see it, mine is just a small scar under my belly button.
Don't be scared they do these things for a reason so go get yourself checked out and all the best for the op and your FAST recovery
Everyone is entitled to their opinion

    Definaatley dont cancel it!

I was worried too when I had mine, i tihnk it sounds muh worse than it is. Seriously, Ive had worse agony when I got my ears pierced ;)

Yup a minature little scar no one can really see. I recommend taking comfort trousers ( like drawstrong joggers,or velour etc) as the jeans I took rubbed against the plaster/bandage combo.

Seriously. Come back here after its been done and tell us how you cant beliueve you were worried about it :D
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

I had one about 3 years ago. I have 2 scars within my belly button - at 90 degrees to each other- I think they're probably about 1cm long? There was also another incision made during the same procedure around my bikini line, but the C section took care of that...;) it was only mm long though and healed very quickly.

I was off work for longer than a week, not because of general pain as such, but when I sat at my desk it was too sore to work. Wasn't a problem lying back or standing upright.
I get the impression that this is relatively unusual.

Please don't cancel it. They've offered it to you for a good reason; even if you are scared, it's much better to know what is wrong.
