how to insure car not driven and kept on drive
I want to insure our car until we sell it. It will be sorned and on the drive definitely not driven.
I've tried ringing several insurance companies who say they can't do it.
Any ideas for insurance companies that don't charge massive cancellation fees or will just insure it sitting on the drive?
Thanks

Personally I wouldn't bother. If you are worried it will be nicked just remove the battery and take everything out the car and leave it open?0

Depends on the age of the car - some companies specialising in classic car insurance offer what they call "laid up" cover...0

Seconded on "laid up" cover. Try Sureterm.0

As the OP appears to be actively trying to sell the car I would go with this. Laid up cover is good for keeper classics.
Either way, insurance on a test drive for a potential purchaser could be a problem.0 -
If it's SORNed surely cannot be legally used for test drive? If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

True enough:rolleyes: but a separate issue from insurance.0 -
td - is there a good reason not to sell car rightaway and keep its insurance and RFL current, so prospective buyers can have test drive. 6 months RFL can be reflected in price/negotiations.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

Hi,
Yes the reason is my dh's midlife crisis took the form of a sporty little mx5 with a soft top and it happened rahter quickly. I trasnferred my insurance over to the new car so old one not inusred.
No reason not to sell straight away except a bit slack.
Thanks for your replies. Can't do laid up insurance as it will be on drive not in a garage. Will pull my finger out and sell it - only trouble is allowing anyone to test drive it.
Thanks

Not only that, if it's SORNed I'm not sure it can be legally kept on the road (statutory off road notice), so you'd need to put it on the drive anyway.
I may be wrong, don't take my word for it but do check it out otherwise those lovely traffic warden folks will be slapping you for a massive fine... :eek:0 -

Ignore me, I am a fool and didn't read the OP properly (it may not be Friday but it sure as hell feels like it!)0
