Would definitely buy this with my Amazon vouchers from Valued Opinions (wouldn't "buy" it as it's not MSE enough!).....agree that making a charitable contribution would be also a nice touch - perhaps making the donation to the NSPCC / Macmillan Cancer Care / Oxfam is these are considered neutral enough.
....errr...thanks for the suggestions for us....but ...could someone clarify on this ....I theeeenk Macmillan Cancer Care only means nursing help for cancer sufferers (in which case.....yay....good one:T ) - and there's no cancer research involved (ie experimenting on animals). I think its a charity that is "on the side of the angels" - but not 100% sure on this one???? (NB: I had better add at this point that - yep I have the same "close relationship" with cancer as a lot of us have - its there in my family too. )0 -
does anyone think that would be a good idea? what with the price of gas, electric, groceries and petrol going up people are going to be looking for quick, nourishing and cheap recipes, proceeds could go to charity
am not experienced in doing that sort of thing but its bound to be possible
I don't know if this is what you mean twink but I posted "A Martin Cookbook?" topic back in May, about Martin bringing out a cookbook containing all the budget and leftovers recipes listed on here.......the topic got moved to the Site Feedback: Question and Suggestions section (my topic's on page 6)..........But I'm all for any kind of thrifty/frugal/budget recipe books! :j0 -
I really do think it would be a great idea, and to think some of us may have a hand in the contribution?
Maybe not just cookery, maybe home economics too? I remember doing it at school, every recipe we made, we had to sum the cost of including elec/gas.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I certainly am hoping it will be possible to contribute a recipe or two myself to such a book - so will await developments.0

I was given a book that had been collated by a nurse. Her children were moving out of the home and they wanted a recipe book so she asked people that she knew to provide their favourite recipes and she provided some of her own. All proceeds went to mums in malawi (I'm sure, shall double check) so they could provide their children with what are basic human needs (fresh food, clean water). I thought it was a lovely story and there are some lovely recipes in there.0 -
Hi there  Can I clarify, is the suggestion to make a book based on tips, ideas and recipes from the Old Style Board?

I would so buy this book!!!
If household management tips and HM gifts etc were included would that be a unique selling point? The only book I've seen like this is one a picked up in a charity shop and is from about 1960 - it's still good though!!!lightbulb moment Jan 07 - DFW 417!debtwas£32k
debt June 08' £28,745A payment a day total - £370.500 -
It would be a definite for me, particularly with a section on how to run a house/bring up a family etc. on little money. I'm sure weve all got tips based on our own experiences that could be added.
The difficulty will be choosing which charity.......there are so many and we all have our own personal preferences but whichever it was certainly wouldn't stop me buying it...........providing the price was affordable.Mary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

can i say the original idea came from frugalpam and tattycath over in the recipe board and i thought it worthy of mention, not sure Penny how it would be made up i imagine Martin might know if or how it should be done
there may be other books on the market but with the prices rising so quickly there must be people wanting cheap but good recipes that would never have had to think about the cost of eating before0 -
To add my two pennorth - I would see it myself as a recipe only book:D0
