  • I have just recieved council tax benefit, I also was told to claim 6 month's back council tax. It appears I cant claim for back tax, as my council have said my reason for having it back dated wasn't a good enough reason. Has anyone else been told this and if yes were you able to overcome their attitude and how?

    Many Thx

It isn't an attitude, the council follow specific regulations. What was your reason for not claiming earlier?
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Hi every1,
I am new to this website and have searched for the button to post a new thread and the only thing that pops up is Quick Reply. Could anyone help me?
  • Hi All,
I am a pensioner and claiming pension credit, housing benefit and council tax rebate. I have just been advised by my Council that I can go abroad for up to 13 weeks in winter and still be entitled to the housing benefit/council tax on my flat.

My question is: Does anyone know if I can claim housing benefit/council tax rebate from a Council in an EEC country if I rent a flat there? The reason is I find this cold weather unbearable here, therefore would like to live abroad for the 13 weeks but obviously cannot afford to rent abroad.

    Hi there

If you click on Benefits and Tax Credits under the main title banner, it will take you to the 'home' page for this section; near the top at the left hand side there is a blue button that says ' new thread'.

    Hope this helps.

If that was possible (which I doubt) would you expect this instead of the payments for your place in the UK or as well as?

LOL, if this was the case I would be off to spend the winter in the sun as well.

I don't get housing benefit here but it would be good if I could be given it on a flat in Cyprus for the winter.

It certainly isn't possible in Spain. In fact, unless you have paid something in to the system you get nothing out.

Health care however, is free for British State Pensioners in Spain, but I think the UK pay for it, not Spain.
