Despite having backed up emails to desktop and pen drive, when opening either one I am met with a page of thumbnails, when clicking on any to read them I get the following pop up, which I do not remember getting previously and have been able to read saved emails, can anyone tell me how to read them?
I have clicked on "Use the web service.. and Select a programme...... but cannot understand the details that come up!

I presume your email client is outlook express, and that's what you need to open the files. "Select the program from a list" then choose outlook express or browse for the program if it's not automatically listed."She is quite the oddball. Yes it is OE
When clicking on a list after Browse and then OE I get this picture and nothing will open the emails,
When clicking on browse I get this picture,(Outlook 5.0 was not originally there until I had clicked on OE in the browse window, only clicking on OK results in nothinghappening

It sounds like your Outlook Express isnt installed, try running the setup50.exe file to re-install it.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Your Sent Items.dbx file can't be opened by double clicking on it.
From Outlook Express, click Tools and then Options, click on the Maintenance tab and then click Store Folder.
That opens a small window with a folder location - right click on that location and click Select All, then right click on the blue highlighted text and select Copy. Click Cancel, Cancel, then close Outlook Express.
Click Start, then Run, then delete whatever is in the box, and paste in the address that you just copied. Press OK.
THAT is the folder you need to copy your Sent Items.dbx file into if you want to view its contents... BUT if you copy it in there and overwrite the Sent Items.dbx file which is already there, you'll be overwriting the data that is already in your Sent Items folder in Outlook Express.
If you load Outlook Express again, and move everything from your current Sent Items folder into a new folder (say Sent2), you can then overwrite your Sent Items.dbx file... and repeat with other similar files you have - without losing anything.
The error you pasted in about not being able to download or send new mail is completely unrelated. The first part looks like AVG is not working properly or is not installed.0 -
I am not happy about moving into different folders, reloading etc, as I am not confident enough to do it.
AVG is loaded and working.
I have just phoned Virgin and got a recorded message saying words to the effect of "if you are having trouble sending and receiving emails, we have a problem and are working on it,( so maybe that is the problem), I have emails on Virgins server that have not downloaded to my computer, maybe that is the problem, but then again the items I am trying to open should be stored on my computer desktop/pendrive and so should open, unless OE is playing up which takes me back to being wary about doing copying uninstalls etc as I do not want to lose anything.
It is not just the sent folder that won't open it is all of them, whilst I haven't tried all of them I have tried various ones including, inbox, outbox,(of which there are 2 emails in there) and a few others, all to no avail.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
Setup50.exe is your Outlook installation file. Any previous emails and contacts should still be there if you re-install, effectively all your doing is repairing it.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Could this be why I am not receiving or sending emails?
Whilst the date does say 11/07/08, there is another page that it came from with a service state date against "email" of 19/07/08.
Could this affect OE?
Even so, I have just received one email into my inbox @ 15:02Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0
