So you have lovely things that have great sentimental value that you can't display in your home? Will you ever have room?
It's very sad but sometimes it's best to get rid and keep the memories.

I have recently been quoted £22 per week but pay for 2 months and get the third free This brings it to about £13 plus £5 insurance. This is for a 30 square feet area needed for a very small 2 bedroom flat. If a 50 square feet is needed the initial price went up to £27.

Agreed, but we don't have a home. Having spent 5 years moving around including abroad for Dhs work we have returned to UK and as FTB feel it more prudent to wait in the current market. We certainly do plan to have room in the future for most of the stuff, plas our own things, but at the moment the storage is an affordable option while we are paying minimal rent and no mortgage. :)

We swapped a computer for loft space in a friend's house, to keep stuff out of the way while we decorate and get ready to move next year. Having an end date on the agreement helps. :)

    Thanks all for the info.

I am giving away a lot of stuff that I had but didn't really use, I was stuck with what to do with things like suitcases, camping gear, inflatable bed, boxes for electronic goods (which I don't want to throw out because at some point I will move again and a generic box won't have the right foam 'moldings' to protect the tv/computer/whatever). Things of less value than storage but that would be either an unnecessary expense or awkward to replace. For example, it seems pretty daft to have to buy a suitcase every year then chuck it at the end of the holiday, there must be cheaper alternatives. Hence the moneysaving forums!

As it turns out, I've not quite as much stuff that I can't bear to part with as I imagined. The prospect of shelling out hundreds a year for stuff that used to be useful and might come in useful at some point in the future/reluctance to let go of things I paid good money for seems to have overcome my inner hoarder.
