BT Broadband - advice needed

Right we were originally with TalkTalk for our broadband and phone and unlike others we didn't really have any problems. Well not until our router started playing up. We looked around and decided to go with BT - what a mistake.
This is my first broadband bill with charges up until September.
22 Jun 2008 £110.59
Phone bills since we went with them
02 Jul 2008 £112.86
06 Apr 2008 £42.10
A grand total of £265.55 - our bills with TalkTalk amounted to at maximum £35 per month. I know this bill is up until September but it works out at £44 per month if broken down.
They will allow us to pay the home phone by monthly payments but for some reason won't allow us to pay the broadband monthly which would be a hell of a lot easier for us.
My question is - Are we stuck with this because we signed up for a 18 month contract or can we get out of it?
