Hey all, I am due to get my contract tomorow which is a Samsung Soul with vodafone. (cant w8..yay). I would like to buy an 8gb memory card, but rumours have it networks firmware can only handle upto 2gb. Therfore I am considering debranding it and installing the samsung firmware

I would like to know would this void my warrenty? as if it does I would have to reconsider.

thanks in advance

(all post would be given a thanks)

    does any1 have any experience?

(+ mods, I think this may need to be put in the techie section, but unsure)

Yes you will void the warranty. Do you know if a copy of the existing Vodafone firmware is available? If so and you need to use the warranty then you can just put that original firmware back on presuming whatever is broken doesn't stop you from doing this.

I have never had any phone refused warranty repairs after a software change or debrand.

Cannot guarantee it but I wouldn't think it would be a problem.

Officially it voids its warranty, however as had been stated most won't quibble. One reason is that CPW tend to source most their phones not direct from the network, so taking out a Vodafone, O2, etc contract via them usually means an unbranded phone.

Of course if you've the vodafone logo on the casing it might be a bit more difficult to explain ;) that is if they actually noticed (quite often the automatically flash the phone first anyway). When I sent my moto v3i in for a repair when one screen stopped working, it was returned with the same debranded software I'd put on it before.

As to flashing a phone, it should be straight forward - done it with my sammy E900 a few times (first to unlock & debrand with generic, later on with modded versions)

..is this right? you have to mess around with the phones internal software in order to use a bigger card? I have only a 2GB card in mine but Im getting problems when I try listening via little speakers or in
the car via a cassette adaptor - both via an approrpiate a headphone/mobile adaptor. Yet for this phone, it wont do it. Im hoping theres some settings change that needs to be done to make this work.. Any suggestions? thanks, SL
