Re your question about potatoes.
The answer depends on how much space you have to plant in total. If you have limited space then potatoes are not for you.
At this time main crop potatoes are the only variety to plantTreat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -
You can easily grow potatoes in flower buckets, bins or compost bags - you don't need a field! You cannot beat the taste of growing your own spuds!!!

I have decided enough is enough and am going to grow my own potatoes, enjoy the new potatoes and hopefully save myself a fortune. My dad told me to buy arran pilot seed potatoes as they have the better taste. They have been growing in my kitchen until now and I have just planted them outside. The national newspapers are advertising potato grow pods (hard wearing, rot proof polypropylene bags with handles} to plant them in at a cost of 1 pod plus 4 varieties of seed for £20. I paid £3 for 3lb potatoes and the same pods are sold at my local shop for £1...BARGAIN!!! These pods(bags) are great if you dont have a garden. I now have several bags full in my garden which should be ready in 7 weeks approx. Cant wait!!!0

Hi I have recently planted some old potatoes that had sprouted in some ordinary tubs. They have grown about 5 inches high very quickly - i tried adding more compost but have no room!! I am just hoping for a few after all it cost me nothing for the seed potatoes! I tried it in the ground once but kept losing track of where the potatoes were and they kept regrowing all the time! Mad!:rotfl:0

I bought a pack of 10 seed potatoes from wilkos, i planted them in 3 rubble sacks (also from Wilkos) about 5 inches deep. For weeks now I have been earthing them up and they are now at the top of the bags!:D Now, i just have to wait for them to flower and i can dig in and see what I have! These bags were just placed on my patio with a few holes popped into the bottom of the bags to aid drainage. I have watered them daily and for someone who is growing grub for the first time ever - i'm pretty chuffed!!:D
Go for it.......i've found most stuff is happy just to get on with it, and don't really need much from us bar sunlight and water!2009 - Attempting to grow my own Kitchen garden.....did it!!!
