Hi,
I have grown mine from seed potatoes for the first time this year. have had good results and feel I have saved money. i have a friend who has had an allotment for 35 yrs - he tells me not to buy any more seed potatoes, but to save some of the ones I have grown this year in a cool place and plant them. i thought that this would cause blight, but he has never had any problems. Anyone else tried this. Jess.0 -

When I put my potatoes in a pot should I have put it outside? I've got it in my garage ATM! lol
I put it in there to stop the kids pinching the soil out of it!!

We grew our first lot of potatoes this year. We got given some seed potatoes by a kind lady off freecycle. We have just dug them up (tipped them out really they were in a grow bag!) and although we didn't get a huge amount they were absolutely delicious.
We have just planted a load more to see if we can get some for the end of the year.
I would say it is well worth it just to see how gorgeous they taste!

yes yes yes! homegrown spuds the tastiest thing in the world. I do spend the money to get them from companies as I like to grow slightly obscure types-British queens (the most gorgeous flouriest new spuds ever) which I have NEVER seen in the shops, red duke of yorks (nice salad not too waxy) and roosters which are the BEST all round everyday maincrop. Will try to save some roosters to use as seed for next year(or just risk the sprouted shop ones), but my tubs of queens have all been eaten so I can't save any!0

What are the best potoatos to grow at home? for both mash & baked? Can i just buy some potatos from a supermarket, let them sprout on the ledge then add to a bag etc, cover with soil, when sprouts show cover more & more until full. Once the flowers have been & died the potatos are ready?
Do i just keep adding sprouting potatos to keep a crop going?2010 is my DO IT year! grow own bits, savvy shopping, organised!!Get a hobby!!! be fit!! be happy!!
Saving all change & paying off debts!!
constantly looking to save money!!! all help needed!!0 -

I don't think it's worth growing potatoes unless you do something like pink fir apple or do new potatoes at Xmas. Plus you always risk getting blight and having nothing.0
