Seller claims they haven't received item

Hope someone can give some advice on this matter. I sold some sim cards on the 9th October and promptly invoiced the buyer. Five days later received an email asking how I wish to be payed. Though this is spelt out clearly in my invoice I repeat the requirements (paypal, cheque or postal order fine). Buyer sends another email saying wont be able to send funds until a few days later and if this is OK.

I reply that I have no problem with this and will send items as soon as payment clears. Buyer then pays by paypal a couple of hours later and asks me to post them tomorrow morning and email me when they are sent.

I promptly do this. Four days passed I have received an email saying they items havent been received. Am I right in thinking that there is nothing I can do in this situation? I did not get proof of postage unfortunately.

  • Have just realised that the person has filed a paypal claim against me as well stating the items havent been received. How will this affect my account?

royal mail dont classify a parcel as missing untill the 15th working day, so get them to wait

otherwise, if they don't turn up
yep, nothing you can do really, refund and take it on the chin

I would say that it is up to the buyer to chase up the Royal Mail. In future offer a recorded delivery postal option as well. It only costs an extra 65p, then if buyer refuses the extra insurance the ball is in their court if it goes missing in the post..
  • Sorry to sound like a scrooge but I really have no intention of refunding the money as to be honest I dont believe the buyer. He is selling a much bigger job lot of sim cards at the moment. Can paypal just automatically claim the money back off me?

It is up to the seller to chase the Royal Mail not the buyer. The seller is responsible for the parcel until the buyer actually receives it. Insurance is to protect the seller not the buyer.

Yes paypal can take the money from your account, or lock your account until funds are next received. You cannot prevent a chargeback unless you either prove delivery or refund the buyer. If you refuse to refund and let the chargeback go ahead then your account will have a warning mark on it and you risk losing the account should you have too many chargebacks in a certain period of time.

Hmmm...think you have been done like a kipper here. Seller of SIMs buys yours...takes ages to pay.....then files a claim!!??

Think I agree with you here.

Don't get mean just get even....start searching for evidence of shill bidding etc. Then of course there are other ways to get back at them, most of which would be frowned upon here......start thinking out the box and I am sure you can come up with a few!!
