paypal disputes - unfair decision!!

tobysmummy wrote: »I don't post much on here but am coming to seek some advice on paypal disputes - my blood is boiling at the moment!
I sold something on ebay and after 2 weeks and many emails, finally got the buyer to pay - who then raised a dispute on paypal saying they did't recieve the item.
I responded, providing a certificate of posting to prove that the items were sent on the 18th June.
Today, paypal have emailed me saying they have decided in favour of the buyer and refunded his money!!!
Apparently, I can appeal this decision, but I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar experience, and what the outcome of the appeal was. I can only provide the information I originally gave in the dispute and can't add anything further as I've provided all relevant info/documents.
I hate to say this, but I think thebuyer is having a laugh - I actually believe they recieved the item, the fact that they were so reluctant to pay suggests that they never had any intention of paying for the goods anyway.
I just hate the way that there is no seller protection now - I have tons of stuff to get rid of yet am so reluctant to use ebay from now on.
Any advice....please???? Thanks
EXACTLY the same happened to me so I am banned from eBay and cannot get a Paypal account as I had already withdrawn the money but now I am being chased as I "owe" them money. I already lost out by selling it and cannot get my eBay fees refunded. The buyer was a so-called friend of mine, I found out at the exchanging of addresses stage and she wa boasting online about how she got this great item for free...Paypal only want to know if it relates to me giving them the money, they can go swivel for it.  :mad:0 -
There's no way that I would send anyone a scanned copy of my passport or of my charge card, I would be wide open to fraud and identity theft. Only if the buyer is an idiot would they agree to such a condition.0

I agree with this; personally I'd feel rather uncomfortable about sending my full details to some random seller on the internet. Who knows what they're going to do with my info?
What's to stop fraudsters from putting the clause in their listing just to obtain these details from an inexperienced buyer?

It isn't a real clause anyway it was just a bloke who happened to be head of paypal in Germany added it to one of his auctions. I find the best solution is to go to the option to get their contact details, which also as their telephone number and give 'em a call, they soon start co-operating in most cases.0

This is exactly how I feel.
And if someone tried to pull this, they would find themselves being reported as a non-performing seller every time they refused a payment as it was not accompanied by a passport photocopy.0 -
Hi I have had a very similar dispute but this item was paid for and the money showed up in my paypal account, two days after the item was posted paypal emailed me to tell me there was an issue with the payment and put the money on hold in my account, they then decided that the funds should be returned to the buyer although the buyer had left feed back for me that they had received the item, due to the fact the money was in my account the buyer confirmed receipt I did not retain the tracking number. Because I cannot provide this number paypal will not refund the money back to me, can paypal take money off me unauthorised and due to the fact they provided me with false information has now lead to this theft of both the item and the money by Paypal, they have effectivly deceived me by providing this false information, does anyone know if this is legal.0

Make sure you put in for compensation with Royal Mail. With any luck the other sellers will have done so and although paypal do nothing about this blatent fraudster maybe Royal Mail will.paypal only look at each case that the buyer opens They don't look at the fact the buyer may have done this 3 or 4 or more times before.0 -
I don't know if you have got all the answers you need...buit i sell loads on eBay so am always using paypal. Paypal will always rule in the buyers favour regardless...they have introduced new measures now to try and prevent this happening so much. I would reccommend that you give them a call ... i always get excellent service from them! I once had a disput opened from a buyer for a mobile phone i sold for spares or repairs, the buyer took out some chip thing and then declared it didnt work (hence the reason i sold it for spares or repairs!) they got a refund but when i phoned paypal they reimbursed me them self....Give them a call its worth a try
