I don't beleive there will be any noticeaable benefit from either filling half a tank or from filling a full tank and avoiding evaporation (which is also going to be minimal).

The best savings will come from driving style and marginal savings from correct pressures (unless you have 4 flat tyres). Not to mention of course a Band 'A' car.

Fair enough, there was a reason why I said "If your only ever travelling a few miles alone...", I have 2 children too and sometimes do the nursery run which makes the car essential for the trip considering the distance and still having to get to work on time.
Someone else taking their 2 children to the same nursery does it with a bike and trailer, but both his children are at least 2, he is able to use pathways on route to the nursery and it's a less than 2 mile trip for him.
