Town driving efficiency, squeezing every last bit from the petrol.
Mainly for the town drivers this one, would keeping the tank at the minimum amount needed for the week increase MPG rates and cut needless petrol use, i figured that a full tank in my car weighs 38kg half my body weight:o or one kate moss. I do around 100 miles a week or pure school, town and essential mum driving so (im at one bar and 98 miles at the moment) so if i waited until i dropped to 50 miles which is just as the red light comes on then topped up to 150 miles would that save a few pennies?. Or am i completly mad?

The fuel savings is minimal & has to be offset against the extra time spent fuelling, both your own time & the fuel burnt in a stop/start queue for petrol.
You'll save more by clearing any junk out of the car, checking the tyre pressure, servicing it & driving economically0 -
To be honest we live a very quite area, queues are not a problem here. There is rarely more than 1 car waiting.
I shall give it a bash for a few weeks anyhow, may be interesting to see if the MPG goes up.0 -
always try and keep the car moving no matter how slowly, also if you can avoid braking late this also helps avoid fuel usage, look further up the road, if the lights are red ease off.0

Do you think i turned moneysaving yesterday??
Im so far past frugal im borderline stingy0 -
Agree with previous poster - Anticipation is the best economy measure to avoid hard braking or any braking at all. Combined with a light right foot and a defensive driving technique work wonders.
Plus, of course a properly maintained vehicle with correct tyre pressures.0 -
I do all of these things already, just trying something new.0

Some people will do anything to save every bit of petrol - yet they won't drive a smaller car or ride a bikeHappiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0

I think you will be better off doing the reverse and filling up when down to half a tank.
This way you have more fuel in the tank bought at a cheaper price and you will loose less of your petrol to evaporation.
If your only ever travelling a few miles alone around town do it on a bike. If you've got hills, you want to go faster or are lazy, consider a pedal electric bike or adding an electric motor to your existing bike, "Alien" kits are for sale on ebay.0 -
As far as i am aware and i dont mean to be rude but carrying a child under 2 on a bike is unsafe and stupid and completly impossible when there is more than 1 of them.
Trailers are hardly escape proof by any means and a baby carrier on the back leave the kid wide open to neck injuries if involved in an accident0 -

And some people just assume.....0
