  • All non-geographic calls will cost 25p per minute, with a minimum call charge of 25p.
  • Standard text messages will cost 10p.
  • Customers will be allowed to move back to their original price plan within 30 days (by September 31st).
  • 10% free if you top up £15 or more by debit/credit card will be discontinued for everyone.
  • 'Stop the Clock' will no longer be available to new customers, but will be transferred to your new 'Simply' price plan if you already have it.

Original Message:

Just received the following text message from Vodafone:
20p per min for calls, 10p for texts, our new price plan: Simply. To get the benefits of Simply we'll transfer you on Sept 1. Call 40040 for new price info.
Not to be confused with their 'Simply' range of handsets!

The changes are being discussed on their forum:

I've just had the same text... nothing on their website from what I could see and the number given to phone only affirmed calling charges.

Seems to be an easier price plan to understand, although it won't make much difference to me as I mostly text, and that charge is staying the same at 10p :D

Here's what I got when I called the number in the text message (40040):
    Welcome to Vodafone.

Great news! We're making it easier for you to call anyone at anytime, by introducing our new straightforward 'Simply' price plan. For more info on our new price plan, keep listening.

From the 1st of September 2008, all your standard calls to landlines or any UK mobile will cost just 20p per minute, at any time of the day.

We're removing the peak day call charge of 30p per minute, and you'll now be charged just 20p per minute - no matter what time of day you call. The minimum call charge will be one minute.

All texts will still be charged at a great rate of only 10p to any UK mobile.

And don't worry - to make sure you benefit we'll automatically move you onto our new 'Simply' price plan from the 1st of September, so you don't need to do anything!

We're also making your non-standard calls simpler:

From the 1st of September, calls to 0500, 0800, 0808, 0870, 0871, 0844 and 0845 numbers will be charged at the single rate of 25p per minute. A one minute minimum call charge applies.

Also on the 1st of September, we'll be launching an exciting new offer we know you'll be interested in. To be one of the first to take advantage, visit vodafone.co.uk on the 1st of September to find out more.

If you wish to speak to one of the team, please call 191. A one-off charge of 25p will apply.

For full Terms and Conditions of the 'Simply' price plan, please visit vodafone.co.uk.

The supermarket chain Asda, has been offering a mobile phone services for just over a year now, powered by Vodafone's network.

If you currently have a PAYT phone locked to the Vodafone network, you do not need to get it unlocked to switch to Asda mobile, just slap in the new sim card. I got my one from their website for £3.00. (Unlocked handsets will also work of course )

I called Vodafone and got my number port code ( cost nothing but a call to VF customer services ) this I passed to Asda mobile and my number was ported over to them in 48 hours.

Their price plan is simply better valuer, 16p per min for first 3 mins per day then 8p thereafter.

Texts first 3 per day at 10p then 8p per text after that.

Calls From EU to UK 35p per min - landline and mobiles.

Ps use the last of your phone credit before porting or vodafone will keep any credit left on your old sim when blocking it
