Upgrading to broadband basic

Please I need your advice. What do I do first when I upgrade to broadband basic? Still thinking of doing it.
I am now on btyahoo surftime 24/7, do I get broadband first and when it is up and running then cancel my btyahoo surftime? I intend to go with another provider e.g virgin or toucan rather than bt. Is it possible to still keep the dial up for a little while and have broadband so that if I am having problem with broad band, I can still use the dial up?
I would like to know whether any of you members are with BT and when you cancel, how much notice do you have to give and is it in writing? Thanks

I was on BT Yahoo Anytime, just like you and I applied for BT Broadband Yahoo (higher than basic, but the principle is the same).
I didn't have to cancel the Anytime as BT did all that for me automatically as part of my order. So the only time you wait is for the acitvation of the Broadband. Infortunately, I have no experience of the cancellation of BT Anytime if you go to another ISP. I suspect it is 30 days notice, which is pretty standard.
The process wasn't without its hiccups, but I am pretty happy now. If you want to know anything else about BT Broadband Yahoo, just ask. I am afraid that I can't speak for any other ISP, though except for Demon, who I went to for my work Broadband. Their service was so bad and the time to activate so extensive (8 wks in total) I went to BT again and they were brilliant.
Oh and by the way you can still use dial-up if your line is set for Broadband, you just need to retain the software settings on your computer.0
