    I am just looking on do-it.org.uk and there are lots of opportunities for admin work and shop work

    Unless a prospective employer specifically requests a reference from a line manager, and this is rarely asked for, then anyone working within the same company can provide a reference.

    This used to happen in a company I used to work for were the Regional Director disliked most of the managers.

    Managers would use sales staff for references and in exchange managers would give glowing references to other staff or managers.

    It worked.

    I will try that.
