I am on XP on my desktop PC. I recently had a reason to have Windows XP reloaded.( I was unable to boot up) My pal reloaded XP and all seemed OK for a while. I then had a problem with a conflict with AVG and Outlook. I deleted AVG and installed avast. Since then, if I load IE, I get all sorts of problems! I get a message saying that I need to check the typing of the web address/problems getting web pages, just refusing to load/50 plus pages loading up at once!

I have tried both Opera and Firefox and both are trouble free.

I have done a virus check/spyware check. All without concern.

Any help/advice welcome.

When you say you "deleted AVG", did you uninstall it properly? Which version of Internet Explorer are you using?

I meant to write, "uninstalled" AVG. I did this via add/remove in control panel.
IE is version 6 (I think)

    Thanks for reply.

ps, the error message reads "Windows cannot find 'null'. Make sure you typed the name correctly.

Any reason you don't upgrade to IE7? (It's a critical security update and is much more secure)

Until you asked me, I thought I was up to date with Microsoft IE! I'm updating as I type.

ps, just to make sure I'm updating correctly, do I just go to Microsoft website and update there or is there something else I need to do to update IE?

    Thanks

Are you using Zonealarm? There was an issue in respect of a Windows update the other week which prevented connection. Details are on Zonelabs website.

No worries. Had the same problem myself. I uninstalled Zonealarm and reinstalled and no problems.
