Will car pass MOT with broken wing mirror?

Help!

my car has a broken wing mirror - on drivers side. The outer 3rd of the glass is broken, the very end is "flapping" in the breeze a little but it all still attached. 2/3rds is okay.
The black plastic is also smashed - but this is cosmetic.

What do you think - will it pass?

I am bidding on a replacement mirror on eBay. but bid doesn't finish until tomorrow evening and car is being serviced/MOT'ed on monday. (It was originally booked in for later next week but I had to bring it forward due to various other commitments)

and before anyone starts with the girly driver comments - it got smashed when someone coming the opposite way meandered over the central white line (guess I should be grateful he/she didn't do more damage!)

You can buy a stick on mirror in a motor factors for a few pounds.
Even if they don't have one for your car, there is a universal plastic one that you can cut to size.
Even if it's not a perfect image or fit, it should still pass.

Not all mirrors on all vehicles are subject to Test, depending on the age of the vehicle. Those mirrors which must be checked must be
    • secure
    • visible from the driver's seat
    • not distorted or damaged so as to seriously impair the driver's view to the rear.
    Obligatory mirror options are:
    a. an exterior mirror fitted to the offside (right-hand side when seated in the driver’s seat), or
    b. an exterior mirror fitted to the nearside (left hand side when seated in the driver’s seat), or
    c. an interior mirror.

All goods vehicles must have two mirrors, one of which must be option ‘a’.
Passenger vehicles with no more than 7 passenger seats first used before 1 August 1978 must have any one of the above options.

Shouldn't it also fail because of the exposed sharp edge's and the risk they pose to pedestrians? (ie driving past a group off kids and taking an arm clean off)

So the short answer is that it's a fail????;)
I had one smashed a while ago, did something similar to what Mikey said and stuck mirror chrome plastic over it short term and bandaged the body as as per Striders suggestions sharp edges/plastic on the body of the mirror is a fail, (not sure it would take an arm off however):rotfl:

Ps, I can understand the post, take the trouble to find out the cost of a mirror for your car. If it's electric heated and remotely operated you will be in for a shock. (mines a run of the mill car and the mirror was £145 without having it painted to body colour:eek::mad::mad:)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

I got mine from a scrappy £30, but it was for a Ford Mondeo 1998 hatchback :D and yes it's heated and remotely operated. Fitted it in 20 minutes.

Yep, I did similar when I found out the cost, and similarly I was only quoting for a Megane:eek:

    Yes it will fail.

As suggested by others buy a replacement glass from Halfords and just stick it over the broken glass and tape over any sharp edges. That should get it passed the MOT until you can get the proper fitted replacement.
